My DS is on half term for 2 weeks & amazingly has no homework at all beyond reading. So I plan to get him writing out cards to his classmates & making tags for snowman soup (class gift this year). That stops the rush around December, it's hard for a 7yo to write out 30 cards plus teachers so hopefully spreading it over 2 weeks will make all our lives easier.

Still not buying much, work is still up in the air but I will probably be here over new year & beyond but without confirmation want to keep all pennies safely tucked away until I know for sure.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

  • We've never decorated the outside our house before but we're hoping to this yr with some icicle effect lights around the windows & porch guttering. Will have to have a look for battery operated ones though as we don't have an outside socket either.
We do have some new battery operated strands of lights for around the inside of the windows from Bethlehem Lights.... my one naughty purchase from Christmas in July on QVC ;)
Was hoping to do some wrapping to this months shows but our little elves have half term so will have to be content with just catching a glimpse when I can.

    DanielleNic87 congratulations

princesskitty lots of babies have phases when you just feel like you were just getting into a routine and then it goes out window again its hard esp when you aren't getting much sleep but thing do settle down again you just give it a little time, go with the flow and try not to stress. none of mine have ever been sleepers or even seemed to really need much sleep either 3-4 hrs at a stretch max if I'm lucky or they are ill at least until they hit the teens when they seem to make up for it 10 fold and a crow bar or stick of dynamite is required to pry them out of bed ;) totally don't take after me as I always slept 12 hrs a night

Nic we have lights in the window but living in an ethnically diverse area alot of our neighbours don't really celebrate xmas so always been a bit cautious about doing too much external decoration but would love to. have been thinking about getting some xmassy path lights this yr.

m&s have some curly ended xmas canes 8 for £2 so more expensive but very sleigh runner looking

Can't remember who said about the cardfactory elf & book set but did see them in my local one they had 2 different elves, reindeer or santa toy versions all with the same book. don't really need another elf but think I might get a reindeer one for taz as one of our elf gifts.

JJ, omo & nanamia hope your all doing as well as can be at the mo

Oh and forgot I picked up some xmas scratch cards as they had red cracker shaped xmas ones

Thank you for this CHRISSYG, just making a note of the address now. Whilst DS16 & DD11 'know' they also 'know' that if they 'don't believe, they don't receive' & are happy to play along for DD8. This will also help keep her occupied for a few hrs during the holidays.... oh & to see her little face light up when she gets a reply back through the post

princesskitty29 - never too early to start the Christmas traditions. We had a santa please stop here sign for as long as I can remember, my grandad used to sneak round and put it at the top of our drive after we had gone to bed a week or so before Christmas. Never too late to stop with them either ;) Santa still gets a mince pie and a glass of whiskey, funny how he has his whiskey the exact same way as dad does ;) haha !

springdreams - my aunt was born with her front 2 teeth! The thought of a teeny tiny new born with teeth freaks me out a little bit!! lol.

MrsChristmas - those Chinese luck arm waving cats, always remind me of high school my geography and form tutor had one in his room on top of a cabinet right in front of where I sat, always felt like it was trying to put me into a trace!! Lucky he was one of my favourite teachers or I would never have got any work done!!

Don't think Jesus had this much attention and he slept okay in a manger .... Just saying
:rotfl: :T that amused me far more than it should have... you know when something just tickles you :T :rotfl:

nic2075 - we have a fair few outside lights...... a rope light santa and reindeers on a bush/tree in the middle of the roundabout, and a free standing sleigh and reindeer by the front door. Icicles around the eaves my end of the house and round across the front door. We also put lights across from the house and wound them up and around the lamp post and lamp on the roundabout too last year looked really pretty! Then we have a few around the back of the house and in the garden so we can actually see some from the house rather than just when coming and going :)
We don't live on a street so there is actually only us and visitors to see our lights :(

we do live in a bungalow, and my dads a boat electrician so waterproof electrics is his area of expertise lol.
Oooh also... you can get solar powered lights! They aren't amazingly bright but they do the job and add a twinkle, my nanny had some :)

pigpen - teenage books are my speciality! I'm a massive geek who at 25 still reads them :P ... and has over 700 books :o! Though a lot in my collection do have vampires, or some weird supernatural of some sort... What kind of things do they like? I also find that sort of age adult books that are teenage friendly, are a great way to go, they make you feel super grown up, though I went backwards too the young adult stuff soon after.... :A

Now while not totally Christmas related but one of you might be able to help... You know the thin brown or white tissue paper they use to wrap fragile things in shops when you buy them does anyone know where I could get my hands on some? And cheap paper bags, you know like the ones they use in old style sweet shops....
I'm taking my painted stuff to a Avon Christmas party thing next week and I'm being hopeful that I might sell something!

My business cards finally came yesterday morning :) After a scare because the weekend yodel man can't find out house, luckily the weekday one can!
I'm still getting a bit stressed about getting everything done though, the cheese platter is giving me a right headache, I'm a bit of a perfectionist :( and unfortunately I can wipe this stuff off and start again so it keeps happening :(

I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.

Thanks Freespirit, shoulder is coming along now and I've got a bit more movement. Doesn't hurt as much but that could be because I've become an expert at not moving my arm in a way that makes it hurt lol :D

I'd love to decorate the outside of the house but DH is adamant that we can't have an outside plug so I just do the windows inside. Having said that I did buy some lovely vintage style Christmas bunting last year and I put that up outside. Luckily it's washable so still looks good and can be used again this year.

Still losing far too much time on the elf facebook group and pinterest :D. I've got so many ideas of what I want to do in the run up to the big day that I'll probably end up not doing any of them. Mmm......I feel a spreadsheet coming on.....

I usually put a wreath on the door (this year I'm booked into a wreath making day eep) but usually only lights around the inside of the window. Main reason being is that DH is always abroad somewhere working around, if not over christmas. We have an outside socket though so I'm thinking I might put them along the banisters of the decking in our back garden, which faces the road so should be seen. DH is actually home from late nov til 29th dec (ds 3rd birthday) this year so I can maybe get him up a ladder somewhere :rotfl:

Feeling festive today. Just about got everything for the staff room hamper, including the hamper wrap kit in HB. WHICH I LOVE!

Decided what to get dad and sm and received a bit more compensation for my lost farepak money after using the MSE email link £64 in my Xmas pot :D

Goodness me, from the fist time ever I was very upset whilst reading our lovely Christmas thread. Seeing as it revolved around a subject that is my personal achilles heel, it was a tough bickering to read.

The advice and support we all give each other (on all aspects of life) is part of what makes this group awesome. Everyone has their own opinion on things and there is no right or wrong answer.

We've all been there to support each other through some tough times and to celebrate the good. Let's remember the true meanings of Christmas; friendship, compassion, love, tolerance and togetherness.

    Please, no more squabbles xxx
