  • Princesskitty - big hugs to you. I suffered pnd after both my daughters, and I know I made myself a lot worse after dd2 was born by spending too long being a stubborn moo and refusing any help. It is absoloutly nothing to be ashamed of, and should not be brushed under the carpet. Rest, accept or ask for help if you need it, and take time out for yourself. It will pass, and you will be back to your usual self in no time xx

Sounds as though you are all doing fantastic ticking off those christmas lists!

I have now officially finished dd2 (after winning one of those reborn dolls on fleabay for £54, Including lots of clothes. I dont know much about them, but dd is desperate for a "real doll, that looks real but doesn't make noises, one she can dress and cuddle". I am hoping this will fit the bill.

At almost 7, she is such a grown up, sensible little thing, that dh and I were thrilled when she asked for a doll, she doesnt play with toys much (other than lego) and usually prefers to kick my *ss playing chess! So were are only too happy to fulfill her wish for a doll, they grow up far too quickly :(

Thankyou for the bingo game link, defo going to try this one, although there will only be 7 of us, I still think it will be a giggle.

Also considering a new tradition of the christmas pickle ornament, its yet another American-ism, and santa hides the pickle on xmas eve somewhere in the house, first person to find it xmas morning gets an extra gift, just some sweets or something. I am always looking for ways to make the magic of the morning last a bit longer, and hoping this will buy us a few more minutes of excitement before everything is tore open.

Hope everyone is well, and enjoying the weekend x

I want to make some chocolate spoons for the kids advent calendars & as gifts for their friends, I have the wooden spoons on order & some little cellophane bags, I just wondered if anyone knows which is they best type of chocolate to use??

I make a lot of fudge etc and I swear by Aldi's chocolate bars. They are big bars about 30p. They taste lovely and are great for melting. If you can temper it (google the temps, but you raise it to about 50 degrees then lower it to 30 something) then they won't melt and loot fab x

  • Just found Fanny Cradock Cooks For Christmas is being shown right now [and for the next hour or so] on FoodNetwork [Freeview 41]. Love it as it has become something of a tradition for watching in the run up to Christmas, even if I think she does make some frightful things.
  • Hi,

Been feeling xmassy so sat and watched the snowman / father xmas dvd yesterday with dd :).

Popped into town and saw the boxed cards - yet to go to a supermarket and see if they have out anything out.

I go into the £ shops and pick up bits to fill up my hampers, struggling at the moment for ideas but im going to a big home bargains next weekend so that might be promising :)

I have also started collecting Coke bottles with family members names on them as part of my table pressies this year. I have found 4 so far. I will buy the little santa hats to pop on top of them once they go on sale in one of the £ shops :D

I'm pinching the personalised Coke idea! :p DD has asked for a goodies hamper and she's not managed to find her name on a bottle yet ;) If I haven't found one by the end of October I'll order a personalised one for her. She'll love it! :D

Just wanted to post in case anyone else is doing an American themed hamper, I got lots of bits in B&M today, Oreo cookies, Reece's peanut butter bits and the best one Peanut Butter M&M's! I've never seen peanut butter M&M's on sale in the UK apart from the really expensive American sweetie shops you see occasionally, accidently bought an extra pack for me!

I foresee a trip to B&M for me later this week ;) DD would love some American sweets :D

So many idea now....but I must get the DIY finished before I do too much Christmas shopping :(

  • Evening everyone,

ESSEXBABE welcome to our lovely thread

CLARABELLA welcome to our lovely thread, as our lovelies have said take a good look around the cheapie shops as they do a lot of branded stuff so much cheaper, so although spending less you can get more pressies and also done as a hamper each it looks more exciting for the kiddies, ooh im not sure as i dont get email updates so cant help with that, i just subscribe to the thread at the top of the page

ALIASLOTTE hi and welcome back, you look very organised already with lots of fab bargains

WILLOWLOULOU oh that is really cute your neice will love it

MRSGIGGLEWICK what fab bargains and what a saving in tescos

PRINCESSKITTY if anyone thinks you are being insensitive then they shouldnt be on our thread, that is the horrible thing about depression it sometimes comes along when you least expect it, and you feel you should be happy and grateful, but it doesnt work like that, you have done the bravest thing going to see your doctor and talking about how you feel, a lot of mums bottle it up because they dont want to be seen as failures but it isnt like that at all, just keep talking and if you need to cry then have a good cry it all helps, be kind to yourself my lovely and you arent bringing the thread down at all i would be quite upset if you were suffering and felt you couldnt say anything on here, i will let you into a secret, i have been waiting to be a nana for a few years and since DD2 told me she was expecting i have been so excited but also my depression has been awful, i dont know why but i am doubting my ability to be a good nana and all sorts, but each morning it is such a battle to get up i just want to stay under my duvet. Sending lots of hugs to you my lovely and we are all here for you xx

Check out Poundland too for American sweets. Our new big one had loads in. They had Reece's Pieces ( I bought loads ) Jolly Ranchers and American skittles and Starburst that had mad flavours. I think it just depends what they get sent. Our local Tesco has a fab American food bit, it's all really expensive but I have got Peanut butter Oreos when they were reduced from £7 to £2 ( big pack). I often see the stuff reduced still with good dates. I'm waiting for the Twinkies to go cheap enough :D x
