You're right 7roland8, I won't change her! We all cringed, my grown up children were shocked and disappointed with her. We even give family photos in frames that are never on display, makes me think has she regifted the frames! Rant over! I probably won't be able to keep it in forever, I'm a leo through and through.

Feel free to rant, better out than in and all that ;)

Maybe next year you should play her at her own game. It can't be nice putting effort ( and expense) into your mum's pressie when you know she clearly won't appreciate it. Buy her a box of biscuits, then you can all go and visit her and eat them :D

    Xmas Saver!
Hi Everyone! I love reading this thread, been lurking awhile now. Just something I have to share with you all, how would you feel if your mother gave you a gift you gave her last year!? tbh I'm really cheesed off. I am tempted to say something, hubby says let it go! he's so easy going.

Or you could go one better and just give the same gift back next year. If she comments you can say
' I thought that was what we did now. I gave it you in 2012, you gave it back in 2013, so I'm carrying on with the new tradition and giving back to you in 2014. :rotfl:'

AACMUM Hello, have added your birthday. :D

Or re-gift her back what she gave you this year - and see what she says! Or just say you are giving money to a charity instead as you know it would be appreciated there.

Wow, You all are really great! what a welcoming lot you are! I think giving it back next christmas is a great idea, hopefully she'll cringe as much as I did this year! families are so difficult, this year i got married so we gave her a family photo and she never commented on how nice it was just how big she looked in it! guess you can't pick them!

A massive welcome to all newbies. :hello:

freesprirt66 - I cannot see any way I will ever go out of the house wearing my "pressie". Not without a brown paper bag on head first, (with the lovely bobble hat on top, and scarve/snood/thing round my neck) :p

MrsChristmas - You have got some real bargains

GILLA365 - Just like nitnurse-not2 and 7Roland8 do, I also list the people to buy for (both xmas and bdays), what I but, where from, what I paid and what I saved. I used an Iphone app, some people of here use excel spreadsheets, and some people use notebooks. Theres no right or wrong way, its whatever works best for you.

    Daislegg - Happy belated birthday.

nitnurse-not2 - OMG 25 people! I cooked for 7 people and was stressed out, and I forgot the yorkshire puddings till halfway through the meal. Hope you enjoy you NYE and can work through your demons xx

FeistyFidget - Will probably be on here tonight, as not going out and we don't "do" NYE, so will catch whoever is on here tonight for our own private party.

hismissus - Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Bought another xmas present this morning (Gift boxed Lanson champagne and glasses for £15 in Sainsbobs) for my best mate who likes "couple presents" for her and hubby and loves champagne.

But.... this is a dual purpose present because if anyone I know has a wedding or engagement in 2014 (not aware of any currently) then THEY can have the champagne and glasses and I will buy my friend and hubby something else. (My tenner per person rule has already gone out the window, but it is sort of for 2 people so thats my defence)

I have also made a start on my plan to purchase all 2014 bday cards/wrapping in Jan. In Sainsbobs I got 4 rolls of xmas paper which is plain silver hologram paper for 75p a roll and will be fine for all bdays. I also got the matching bows/ribbon for 75p a bag (x2).

There were also lots of nice bits in Aldi in the xmas section. Got some Stolen for 99p (not had any yet this year), and got a pack of handmade cards for 50p. Loads of other cheap stuff but didnt pay much attention as was chocs and biscuits and we have loads of both.

Jealous of all the people who have took decs down. Still working on my kids to let me take ours down. Hubby cant wait, but kids want a few more days.

I have not thought about my making any NY resolutions yet, and no idea what aims to put on my sig here.

2013 has been one of the worst years I have ever had (particularly around April/May time) and I really can't wait to see the back of this year. I keep trying to focus on the positives and ignore the negatives but it's easier said than done.
    Aims for 2014
Drink a glass of water a day, Empty handbag at least once a week, Continue "not putting things off" and tackle things head on, Treasure people around me, Stay healthy and well away from hospitals, Continue to declutter/decorate house slowly and not get stressed because I can't do everything at once. :D

For those of you staying in, why not have a nye 'party' in here? I know a lot of you will be spending time with family, but there will be some that could pop on and keep each other company?

I'm talking myself out of going tonight :( I'm trying to think of a valid excuse not to go, which is nuts because; a. I will enjoy it once I'm there b. one of my besties isnt keen on going and it will leave her in the lurch c. My friends will be miffed that I've ditched them again d. I will enjoy it when I'm there!
It's the thought of the taxi fare home :( It's only a few miles, but I'm forseeing £30+!!!! We have a night bus, which would only be £3, but it would involve a 5 minute walk on my own back from the stop, and with my luck....... I'm even considering driving and not drinking, which is insane, because I am so nervous about not being dressed correctly, and meeting so many new people that without a drink to calm my nerves It will be intolerable :(
Haha you sound so much like me!
I'm bowing out and staying home 0:) parents are having friends over, well the husband and children the wife is working, but still less effort, I may even stay in my onesie :o!
    pixtotts,
you shouldn't pop blisters, however painful they are as you risk getting infections. As nurses we always popped blisters years ago but the view is the opposite now.. I hope they heal soon.

Thanks :) Yeah I've been told that before, unfortunately the bad one is one that burst of its own accord before I got home :( the other I may have popped myself anyway though but shh ;) that one doesn't hurt luckily. My nanny used to put aftershave on them :o I've never been quite brave enough to do that to myself... lol

I made it to town today, and bought... well hardly anything... some pj bottoms which are the same as another pair I have but so cute, they have little kitty cats on them in fancy dress as other animals they are awesome.... but more importantly I got my diary! :D Simon's cat, half price, and they let my sister use her student discount so only £4.50 :)
I don't get why most diaries are £10! it's ridiculous ! (especially as I forget to use them :P)
    x
I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....
  • I'm another one not going out tonight so will probably be around on here once OH has gone to work (he works permanent nights so he got Christmas Eve/Day nights off in exchange for having to work NYE). I really can't be bothered with NYE, haven't decided whether I will stay up for midnight or not yet depending on how tired I am :o

Did pop into town yesterday after the weather calmed down and got a couple of Sanctuary gift sets reduced in Boots as part of Christmas presents for next year and bought some more wrapping paper in Peacocks - 30m of paper for £3 which I didn't think was too bad :)

I'm all up for 2014 being better than this year - expecting a new baby niece/nephew mid year (will be my first as I only have 1 sister) so have the chance to buy lots of cute clothes :) First things first though will be a call to get some builders quotes as the recent rain/wind combo had led to some small leaks that we need to get fixed before they bring the ceiling down but not sure how much they can get done until the weather improves :(

  • Have a happy New Year everyone. I don't like it either but we have promised to go into our neighbour's for a little while after 12. We will stay for an hour.
I was weighed at SW today and I have put on 2lbs in a week!!!!!!
We have not found who is the murderer. The fish are in the garage in bins with little pumps giving them oxygen at least they won't get eaten!
I know it is upsetting to get a gift back but you might laugh about it in years to come. I used to get really spoiled by my Mum as I was an only one. I wish so much that my Mum could get her mind back and enjoy Christmas again she is so missed. Your Mum won't be there for ever. I know it is easy for me to say as I had the best Mum and Dad you could have had but we had mishaps at Christmas and I now wonder why I was upset as it didn't really matter all that much.
Speak to you all next year. xx
