I think we should all do pics of our most hideous gifts which we are grateful for but we just don't like! The ones that make us wonder why on earth the buyer thought anyone, least of all us, would like them!!! lol.

This.. really... a size too big... the fabric feels lovely but.. ..

Wow!! Just wow, that is quite a top!
I didn't get any pressies like that this year, the only ones that are a bit iffy is a cushion cover from my uncle which has a really cute kitty on it and matches a throw he got me last year... but... I have issues with cushions, I throw them off sofas, and tend not to even bother with them in my room... the other iffy one is also a cushion, a owl one, I'm sure you've seen them about the kind of patch work ones with big buttons for their eyes, he's sweet, and in black and grey so will go nicely in my room which used to be brown and gold but is now getting some bits of grey added in... but again a cushion :/

Pixtotts that made me giggle, think Mastermind, and Pixtotts your chosen subject NAIL VARNISH :) haha. Ouch blisters are not nice. I bet you are glad to be going home, your Mum will have missed you xxx

Haha! Yes I have my Mastermind subject sorted :D. I am, very glad to be home :) though first day here dad is doing a job for someone and lil sis has run off to her friends, so just me and mum. x

We popped into S'burys. I got myself a onesie :D I wanted one that wasn't fleecy or an animal, so it was a bit more 'everyday' if a onesie can be everyday :S ... Well I found a cream one a sweatshirt material, with a nordic design around the chest and on the pockets in what is either a very dark pink or red colour it's nice I like it :)
We also got some Christmas pressies for next year, gift bags, wasn't taken by any of the wrapping paper :/ and may or may not had 2 packs of the 5 little lindt bears (75p) and a milky bar selection pack (75p - it's now cheaper to buy a selection pack of 5 chocolates than just to buy 1 chocolate bar... *rolls eyes* crazzyy) jump in the trolly ...oops... oh and a gingerbread house kit :D I'd said I was going to make one with the gingerbread I got from ikea but never got round to it so that's my plan for this evening :D if I ever decide what shape to make it. I can't decide... traditional, the shape of our house, or a crazy princess castle...
But first I have to try and find homes for my Christmas pressies :S
    XxX
I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....
  • Well the trees are down and real one put out for recycling, all the decorations are down and packed away in garage, so thats it xmas over and done with :( i am not into NYE either i always feel that the next year is s******r than the last :rotfl:but i am going to try and be positive and think next year is our year :o we usually sit and watch a film with nibbles then watch the fireworks then bed, but on NYD we always have a big roast beef dinner, this year i have some family coming so there will be 8 of us, i dont know when i started that tradition but it was while the kids were small

I got this too.. which doesn't look horrific but hangs like a sack off my ample bosom so I have a draught around my middle and the added point of.. I loathe green! and it has scratchy silver stitching. I do think this is ok but the style colour and fit are not right.

  • Afternoon everyone, another lurker here. I have been reading all about you since October. My day would be empty without this thread, you are all an inspiration.
My name is Clare, I will be 40 on July 3rd and have just started crafting. Why it has taken me this long to start, I will never know. :o
2014 is the year I will learn to use a sewing machine, so any advice & Christmas projects will be greatly appreciated.
I was lucky, no hideous presents this year.
Picked up some lovely led colour changing snowmen in sportsdirect for 50p each. All wrapping paper, cards & tags bought.
    Thanks for letting me join

    Xmas Saver!
Popped into town this afternoon. Our sales are sh*t.
Bought the Pirate ship for FM and his Birthday card and some bloodworms for the turtles. That was it. I looked for stocking fillers but they all looked the same. My 2 tend to have smellies and underwear, and I can get them during the year. It didn't help that it was raining and blowing a gale.
Both Boots and Superdrug sale shelves were nearly empty and I just couldn't be bothered. I may look online in Superdrug. I can do that in the warm with a coffee.
The couldn't find any wrapping paper I liked, then realised I won't have a lot to wrap this year as I have reduced the list and my 2 want money. So I will use what I have left over from other years.

My job this evening is to sort through all FMs toys and make room for the lot he just got and the birthday bits he will get on Sunday.

I need to walk Mia but it just soooo cold outside. I will do it later after dinner. It helps me feel less sluggish.

Hope everyone else has had a good day. xx
  • I cant wait to take down my Christmas decorations and have my house back to normal again but I'm going to wait until the children are back in school so it can all be put away properly and with care.

I've made a Christmas folder so I can jot down any ideas for christmas gifts that pop into my head through the year. I've decided to cut down on the amount of people I buy for next year as I stress so much about finding the perfect gifts and I haven't even received a thank you for them, which is quite upsetting.

At the moment I have all my bills spread out in front of me so Ican sort out a budget for the year and I will know how much I can spend on birthdays and Christmas without going into any debt. I'm doing the sealed pot challenge and I'm saving all tesco clubcard points, nectar points etc for Christmas 2014.
If things go to plan I should have :-
    £500 from my sealed pot
    £50 from rbs cashbackplus
£75 in tesco points which i'll use to double up to £150
    £20 in nectar points

Thats gives a grand total of £720!!!!
  • OMO... I just spent the last few hrs on the Superdrug & Boots sites!
In Superdrug there are hot water bottles reduced from £10 to £2.99... picked up 2 for DDs.
Between both sites, MIL will be the recipient of warm festive red slipper socks & a Lavender Yardley set... she's almost done now for little more than £10 :xmassmile
Got most of the families smelly sets & a few treats for myself. I especially love beauticology sets in the bathroom at Christmas, so 2 'fell' into the basket, also a small Spa sanctuary set for when I fancy a pamper night.
I'm a little dubious that they will 'go off' ... do smelly sets 'go off'?? They'll be getting them for birthdays instead if they do.

Thanks, will have a look at the Boots site as well. I nearly always buy some smellies in the sale for the following Christmas. Just keep them in a cool dark place and they will be fine.

Toys all sorted. Bag of baby things ready to go into the loft. :)

    Hello Lovelies

I have spent the entire day reading through this thread (apart from all the links which I will read through tonight) and I'm in awe of you all!

The last couple of Christmasses I have been so disorganised, and have spent far too much money so I'm hoping joining you will help with both of those things.

I work shifts in my main job, but have also been working a second job on my days off so my entire life is upside down and I need to reclaim it. My house looks like Basra, and I've still got Christmas cards that I haven't given out!

Please tell me you can all help me ?

I'm very interested in what exactly goes into these spreadsheets and notebooks you are all talking about, can anyone enlighten me please ?

I plan to open a separate savings account this year to transfer some money into each week to help with the cost of Christmas, and I want to be more crafty in 2014 too although, like some others have said, I'm not sure I would feel like I was giving someone a gift if I had made it. Silly I know!

    Thanks

    Gill x

    Welcome GILL635:wave:
There is always loads of help and advice on here to try and keep us all on the straight and narrow.:D
The spreadsheets/ notebooks etc can contain whatever you need to make sure Christmas is more organised.
Mine has a list of people, present ideas, what I buy, where from, how much and how much I have saved. I do a list for the cards too (Birthdays is a sep sheet)
I also write my shopping list on a spreadsheet. I cook a 3 course meal on Christmas Eve, the usual lunch on the day and prepare side dishes for Boxing day ( sit down meal for 25 this year:eek:)
I have the usual eg potatoes, sprouts and add others as I go. This is divided into fridge, freezer, store cupboard, fresh, drinks and extras...crackers, table confetti etc.
I also plan the colour scheme for the coming year to help me sort the linens that wil lneed freshening up for December.
I have a folder on my net book with menu ideas, quizzes and games for the festive period. There is also one where I save ideas from here such as snowman soup and the jar that is shown a couple of pages back.

Some people use an app on their phone but I like to do my own so it fits everything I want :rotfl:

Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say

    Debt-free and Proud!
Well I just make a list of all birthdays and Christmas people I give gifts too - plus I keep a list of what I have bought and how much it cost (and this year will also list the full price s I will know how much I have saved!).

Just bought 8 body butters form Body Shop which work out less than £2.50 each - I like them for myself too!
