    Hi all,

Nana - we don't call mum "old biddy" just the style of phone! :D Mind you, after trying to explain to her last night over the phone how to use the "old biddy phone" we may just start calling her that:rotfl:Hubby was in stitches!

OMO - I think I remember watching mind your language as a child. Was that the one set in a language school?

Hugs to all who need them, some of you sound life life is not treating you kindly at the moment. Things will eventually get better even if you don't feel it will xxx
  • Mind Your Language was definitely shown nationwide, in the late 1970s - I remember it well. I was quite young then and found it very funny to be honest, but the humour wouldn't be very PC these days. It had quite a large viewing audience then though.

OMO - Yes I remember it too, I'm in the East Midlands/Anglia region. I remember my gran watching it, I think I was a bit young to really get it! She also used to watch Love Thy Neighbour! :rotfl:

Hanley - hope you get the window sorted. My parents had ball bearings catapulted through their conservatory on Halloween as they didn't answer the door I guess  Police had to be called, all very distressing for them!

Thanks for all the kind words re window. DH is going to try to get it sorted today. He know's someone who should be able to get us a cheap pane of glass. I'm in a bit of a downer at the moment. All I do in my free time is stitch trying to get these invites finished. Then things keep going wrong in the house, we've lived there 7 years now so I'm not sure if it's just time for everything to breakdown at once. :(

On the plus side DD's doctor birthday venue has been provisionally booked, just need to pop in there on Saturday to tell them which food we want and so on. Her pressies are all bought and I've ordered the party bag stuff just waiting for it to arrive. :)
    Savings Account - £0.00 :(

    Weight Loss - 33lbs lost 9lbs to go :)

belated birthday wishes b-e-g glad you had a great day sometimes doing nothing is the best thing ever

jj hope your not overdoing it

hanley that must have been pretty scary at the time hope its not too expensive to fix

    nic congrats on the job

sequeena Its hard when you have so much to cope with but you do have to keep pushing when it comes to education to get him the support he needs. I know your not sure about nursery but if you can find a place your happy with it will do you both good. yes its going to be difficult and letting go/trusting others to take the care of him that he needs is very tough but with the right support he has every chance of making good progress even if its just in 1 or 2 areas.

late in today, typical don't put the puter on this morning as i had something i needed to do, get to work a friend/colleague asked me if i got the pm telling me about the book thief tickets in our area. no and now im here they've all gone. that is one of my most favourite books in the world. i must admit reading it at arms length in places as i couldn't bear what i was coming but needed to know how it was going. i literally could not put it down. i felt such a mix of emotions when i got to the last page. i felt sad that id finished because it was so good i wanted it go go on forever. i wasn't going to see the film as i didnt think it would be as good as the images created in my mind by the author, but DD3 gave me money for christmas to go and DH said i was literally sitting on the edge of my seat in the cinema grinning like a loon when a trailer for it came on. the girl they've chosen is exactly the girl i saw in my mind while reading. i think i need to go and see it:o

hanley so sorry to hear about your window, i hope its not too expensive to fix - you dont need to change the frame you can just change the glazed panel

omo, in east mids and i remember watching mind your language

hugs and very good wishes to all.

i hope the weather and the world in general is kind to you

Well the fact that everyone remembers 'Mind Your Language' just goes to show what a boring load of farts the people I work with are.:rotfl:

Picked up my new glasses today. Can't say I can notice any difference, but then I've not been driving a lot or been on the iPad much today.

I have just smashed my fave mug  It's only a plain white one from Asda but I liked the feel of it.

Have found a new app that might be useful to some of you. (also available on a laptop). It's called Pocket. Once open add it to you contact list. You can then email links to it to read/watch off-line. I have added some film from YouTube to mine. To start the film I have found I need to be on-line but as soon as they have started I can turn wifi off. I think for articles you don't need wifi at all.
It would be good for journeys. You can save pretty much anything. If you have it on more than on device the saved articles go to all of them.

Got weighed today by the nurse and I am 3lb heavier than before Christmas. Which I am pleased with, bearing in mind the trouble I have had with my weight the last year.

Spoke to (BFF) today. We are going shopping next Tuesday. She has already pulled out of one trip this year. I have decided if she doesn't go I will go on my own. I think that will shock her as we normally just reschedule.

Just told everyone to get out of the kitchen as there wasn't enough room to swing a cat.

    Been told by DS

A - we do not have a cat
B - he thinks it would be against the law to swing a cat and it would be cruel. If he ever saw someone swinging a cat he would report them.

Love today's quote, one of my dad's favourite sayings was "Pick your window..." and it's still something I occasionally use with some of my (male, academic) colleagues when they're pushing their luck! No new boss yet Nana, job advert has just gone out. Fingers crossed we get someone lovely!

Nic, huge congratulations on the job - fingers crossed it leads to great opportunities for you, you deserve it!

Thanks for the links to celebration days Pixie, they're fab, might add a few more to my list!

Hanley, how horrible - were you in the room when it happened? I was once in a car when a stone flew up and the windscreen shattered and it was terrifying, there's something really shocking about glass shattering!

Sequeena, make sure you make the most of online advice and support - expertise by experience I call it - I struggled to navigate all kinds of PCT/local authority systems and processes for my mum's dementia and it was only when I turned to various forums, I learned that there was a wealth of people I could learn from. Same for my dad - I'll never forget when he had cancer and we'd been through every consultant you could possibly imagine about various symptoms all to no avail, then someone on a cancer forum said "he doesn't need to put up with that, you need to ask for X from Y" and then suddenly I felt like I was fluent in this secret language and we got exactly the help he needed. And if anyone on a bus throws you ANY kind of look...tell them to pick their window ;)

I swear my laptop is like Johnny5...this weekend it was so slow and OH and I looked in to buying a new one and were chatting about it, using this one to look online at deals. Well I log on tonight to buy the one we settled on and it's like my existing one has a new lease of life! It's fast as you like! I'm sure it heard me.

Here's something that I think pretty much sums up my life at work at the moment - today I get a lovely box of chocolates from a group of people who are visiting the city, to thank me for making the visit possible, arranging training for them, sorting their accommodation and travel etc. I've dealt with them all individually by email and phone and they've written some lovely notes to me in the card, appreciative of my support. A lovely gesture...dampened slightly by the inexplicable fact they've ALL called me 'Helen' in the card. :rotfl:

OH and I have settled on a short trip to Lisbon for our first anniversary. Return flights were less then £30 in the EasyJ sale and my sister had bought me a Superbreak voucher for Christmas, which has gone towards our cheap-as-chips (probably-has-mice) accommodation. Said we wouldn't do Europe again as it's SO expensive (OH still tells the tale of £5 cups of coffee in Prague to anyone who'll listen) so will probably live to regret this 'cheap' break but will feel utterly depressed in March if my sister has just left so felt like we needed something special to look forward to.

Love and hugs to everyone x

PS Agree with OMO that Pocket is great! I discovered StumbleUpon around the same time and can recommend that too, it's unearthed some great sites for me.

Nanamia - Hellooooooo You have been missed xx

Ameyturtle - Hope you are feeling better now.

Baby Boo - OMG! I am so sorry to hear about DH car accident. I hope things improve.

MsGiggleswick - Congrats to your DD, the amazing artist. You must be really proud.

Blue Eyed Girl - Your are me but a week later :D (Glossing then Ikea) Hope it all goes well. Also.... Happy Belated birthday :bdaycake:

freespirit66 - You are a very bad influence on me when it comes to food. I want Sticky Pork now!!!! :o

Caitlyn22 - Lisbon trip sounds lovely. Hope you dont mind but I have copied your events calendar and I am going to try it with the kids and DH. May 6th looks like my favourite though.

Nic2075 - Congrats about the new job, thats amazing news.

Hanley25 - So sorry about the window.

Sequeena - Hugs from me. I have no experience to draw from but can see that Pigpen, Caitlyn, Junior J, Chrissy and others responded with their support and experiences.

The thing that makes this thread such a special place is that someone on here can always, help, advise, sympathize or just give you some hope and understanding on a day where you will feel down. Please keep posting and enjoy the combined strength and power of the xmas gang. :A

Junior J - Lovely to see you on here Miss Positive and glad you are home.

OMO - Ignore rich colleagues (who are probably jealous of you). Remember money doesn't buy class or manners. AND.... as I repeatedly say - if I won a million pounds tomorrow I would still shop at Poundland and get excited about the Boots 75% sale. Please don't say you are a misery, and please dont say no one understands because everyone on here does and is totally on your side.

Arthien - I had a similar thing with my boss. He got a call out of hours which was potenially really bad news for all of us, and announced in a meeting that it was really hard to hear the caller (from abroad) so he moved downstairs to the the side of his indoor swimming pool to hear better.

Hello and Welcome to Pixie Fairydust - Thanks for the link

mandco - You sound like you have some real bargains
    Aims for 2014
Drink a glass of water a day, Empty handbag at least once a week, Continue "not putting things off" and tackle things head on, Treasure people around me, Stay healthy and well away from hospitals, Continue to declutter/decorate house slowly and not get stressed because I can't do everything at once. :D
