    Debt-free and Proud!
Arthien - she's already bought us a voucher for a spa day and lunch to cheer me up after dad died!

Free spirit - she's teetotal so champagne afternoon is a no-no. She'd eat all the sarnies and let me slowly get merry;)

Also as she works in a school, we're really limited to when we can do experience days as we have to fit around her hols.

She said she fancied going to a medieval banquet but not only is she teetotal, she's also a veggie :rotfl:

We have lots of memories of places we've been/things we've done together just no souvenirs/photos which is barmy considering her phone is full of photos she's taken. Did think about a digital photo frame but doubt she'd use it.

I always meant to get my mum a trip on the orient express (though that depends on where in the country you are) or take her for a nice 'proper' afternoon tea somewhere?

Or if she's green fingered at all how about a plant for the garden? Might be able to find something aptly named eg these or for more advice here

It is my crazy bessie friend no.1's 40th in April and I really don't have a clue what to get for her as she keeps scuppering my ideas! I was going to get her a voucher for a stay in a castle as she's always wanted to do that then she told me last night she's got one off travel zoo to treat herself:mad: I was going to book a trip for when she's on holiday in Italy for her birthday then she tells me she's found a great trip (yes the same trip!) herself and booked it :mad:

Despite us having been friends for 15yrs, I barely have any photos of us (apart from my hen do and wedding) so a photo book/scrap book is out of the question. I buy her jewellery nearly every birthday/Christmas anyway, she doesn't collect anything (hates having nick nacks around her house) she's forever buying discounted vouchers online so she's probably already bought it if she wants it:mad::mad::mad:

For my 40th, she bought me loads of bits with 40 on (keyring, photo frame, mug etc) so I can't do that really either:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Any ideas? I'd really like it to be some sort of keepsake I think.

How about a session at a cookery school?

Sorry today's quote is so late. The day hasn't gone as planned. We were in the opticians for nearly 2 hours. They tried to charge me £78 for dd's glasses. After 30 minutes of telling them they were wrong the manager came over and added it up. Amazingly she added it up to £40.
Apparently even though I told them dd was doing 4 A-levels and where she studied they didn't have her down as a minor. I even watched the first lady we saw type it in the computer.

Then off to the garage only to find the wrong battery had been ordered. Not BILs fault. He ordered what the book told him to order. Only it was 1 1/2 inches too big. So I'm going back tomorrow to get that done.

I did manage to drop a bag of stuff off at the charity shop and bought the homeless man who sits outside McDs a cup of tea. Also gave him some chews for his dog. So not a completely bad day.

Good job that you stuck to your guns in the opticians! When i was younger my mum refused to pay anything towards my glasses & always picked glasses within the value of my NHS voucher as I was always falling and breaking them! I once had a pair of glasses that only lasted one day before I fell and broke them!

Our record for breakages was 5 minutes.. DD3 put hers on, the optician adjusted them and put them back on and the nose bit fell off.

My friend is still the same.. her glasses never have 2 arms or 2 nose bits and she'd look really odd with no sticky plaster holding them together.. she had to use them for a month taped together when we were at school as she had only had them 2 hours when she sat on them and broke them and her mum was too embarrassed to take them for repair lol

Oh OMO what a day!! What a lovely thing to do for the homeless man and his dog, since my DS did that it has really made me aware now, he carries around a bottle of water in his bag in case he sees someone homeless, it puts me to shame because i have always just walked past them.

If you find your GP unhelpful, consider talking to someone else at the surgery. Perhaps the practice nurse or receptionist could listen. It is better to tell someone how you are feeling rather than bottling it up

    2. Complete the brain age test
    3. Go a whole day without coffee
    4. Read some of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

A day without coffee! Well done you!

Thinking of you, Nanamia. Must be getting to the end of the show about now. Hope it was as good as you expected & then some!

Been racking my brains trying to think of a good 40th birthday present. It's hard when you don't know the persons taste/style or your budget. Here's some ideas that I've done for other people or what people have done for me, so feel free to use those if they seem suitable.
A present for every year (ie 40 gifts). Doesn't have to be big or expensive things. Example: I bought a set of 4 tumblers from poundland and wrapped them separately.
A gift to represent each letter of the alphabet. This was fun to do actually. For 'Q' I had a birthday announcement put in a stitching mag called 'quick & easy'.
A summer holiday hamper with clues to each gift. My best friend loved this and did a similar thing for my Christmas presents.
Last birthday my hubby did a chocolate themed birthday for me. Chocolate brioche for breakfast, (chocolate) afternoon tea in London, a visit to Choccywoccydoodah then to the theatre to see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
    Segway rally
Vintage afternoon tea (went to one with a burlesque show, which was fab!)
As she's going to be in Italy for her birthday, how about something to do with that? Italian or travel themed hamper? Or a charm bracelet with an Italy related charm on it?
