thanks for that...I have discussed with my hubby and we think we would have stopped at the same point the guy in the article did (hubby says he wouldn't have given the CC number out over the phone, I think I might have if it sounded so legitimate) but then would have spent the rest of the trip or journey home stressing that we've given out our CC to a random stranger...so grateful for the heads up.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Timely with the recent discussion;

I've just booked KA on 2nd Apr at 9:30 for me and the missus - $130 total (inc fees and taxes) I thought was a good deal.0 -
Found one and booked today. Many thanks.Mortgage Free: 28/10/2010Time / Interest Saved: 18.5 years / £61,866.500 -
Just over two weeks left till we head back to Vegas. Flying 28th march from gatwick and back on the 2nd April.
Question for those of you who have stayed at the vdara -
Is it still the case with the vdara that I should tell the taxi driver no tunnel or freeway/take Las Vegas blvd to avoid getting long hauled or is there a better route?
Not picking up the car until Sunday lunchtime so there is no avoiding a cab journey.
Thanks.0 -

it's scary how realistic it sounded! agreed, I wouldn't have given my long number out over the phone - I think I'd have just said 'don't worry I'll pop down to the front desk now!'0 -

it's an interesting one, our drivers have always said 'i'm going to take the i-15' - so it's longer, but potentially quicker. we've always landed at about mid-afternoon on a Friday and so the strip is starting to get busy with traffic, so it seems sensible to me to whizz up the i-15 and round the back. (Edit - to Vdara)
now that may be the taxi driver pulling a fast one (or not a fast one!), and it's not very MSE of me, but after a 10hour flight + travel, i just want to get the hotel and I don't really care if it's $15 or $25!0 -

Ditto.
I personally think telling the taxi driver to take the quickest or cheapest route is better than 'no tunnel' but that's just me. If I were a taxi driver and someone said 'no tunnel' I would follow their direction even if there was a major issue on the surface roads and we sat in traffic for ages and woe be the passenger who said 'you never said!' for I would reply 'you did say 'no tunnel' without regard to any knowledge I might have so I've followed your instructions'.
I know they are not supposed to take you via the tunnel without asking/confirming it will be more expensive but like you, after that long of a flight I just want to get to the hotel.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Hubby had a bit of a problem with his credit card last June @ mirage. When we were checking out he paid 3 x resort fee in cash and got receipts for it.When we were back in the UK and about a month later his credit card bill came and there on it was $210 charge to the Mirage. When he contacted them at first they said it was the resort fee to which he said That he had receipts for that so they said they would investigate. It turned out that it was a drinks bill for $160 and a $50 tip charged to our room!!!We did have a bit of a problem proving it wasn't us but they did checked the tab and found it was a different surname to ours so eventually they did refund it.When we thought about it after what is to stop anyone picking a room number at random and putting everything on their bill???Had to laugh at the $50 tip though!0

Thanks for the input guys, I have recently read a few harshly worded things about it on Vegas Chatter and didn't want to look silly.
Getting there quickly is the main reason we are not doing a shuttle. Well that and a terrible experience in New York with super shuttle. Never again.
The sooner I'm in the room, the quicker I'm on the strip and that's the aim.
Well that and fast tracking some pretzel m&ms!0 -
Just to follow up on using 0161 311 3111 to call MyVegas redemption line. This worked for me. However, I tried using this number to call the Caesars Box Office to make reservations for Purple Reign that I'd bought though Groupon. I was being told that the number given was an invalid number (I tried several times). I did some routing around on the internet and found "MagicJack". It's an app (I have an Android phone but I assume it's also available on other platforms) that allows you to call USA and Canada free (and doesn't use your free minutes). I'm assuming that it will also work while in the States - will try next week and let you know. It works over wifi, so I had a few momentary dropouts, but otherwise, it did a great job. Unfortunately Purple Reign have cancelled their shows for the time that I will be in Vegas, so I'm glad I didn't have to pay call charges to find that out. I just hope that Groupon Support will agree to refund our 6 tickets! Anyhow, I recommend MagicJack.0
