Thanks for all the info about Sat Nav's.
I don't want to spend a lot, so hopefully I can get something that will do what I want at Walmart since I can see it along the route to our hotel. I've got google directions printed for between all our stops between Phoenix and Vegas, so we don't really need a sat nav but if I can get one for $50 or so I think it will be useful...and for future too.
I'm not keen to use my phone with apps etc. I don't have mobile data abroad, and don't intend to pay for it either. We'll have wifi at hotels for most of our trip so I'll just use facebook/whatsapp etc to communicate with folk back home - so mobile really not needed. I never take it out and about with me either it sits in the safe when on holiday.0 -
MMMM that seems wrong to me, a bit like you hear of people buying clothes, leaving the label on, wearing them then returning
Lol, I'll be checking that our 'new' satnav is wrapped and unused. I have bought things from Argos a few times and had to go back with them because they have been used. Recently bought hair clippers for hubby and when he opened them they had little bits of hair all over yuk! I hate the thought of buying something to wear that someone might have had on. After all not everything is washable, so if you buy a dress it's not like you fling it in the wash before wearing it if it's dry clean only! And someone else could have had it on yuk.
Used goods should only be returned if faulty, and then they shouldn't be back on sale in store.0 -
With navigation systems, bear in mind that outside towns and cities mobile phone (cell phone) coverage in the USA can be very patchy, especially on non-interstate roads. However, GPS satellite coverage is just about universal (except in tunnels)."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0

I'd get about $4 or so less for £500 now. So not a huge difference, but I still want as many dollars as I can get for my money! :rotfl:
To be fair, I said I wasn't going to buy any more since we are travelling in the car for 4 days before Vegas...didn't want to be carrying too much cash.0 -
we booked our last 2 nights hotel (hubby did receive a Cosmo offer finally) and booked hire cars for both Chicago (first stop) and Vegas...so I think that's everything required for our October trip except the hotel at LHR the night before we fly out...it seems so far away still but it's nearly August so maybe it will go quickly.
We saw that Shania Twain is coming to an end at Caesars so are thinking about maybe going to see her, but hubby is a bit indifferent and happy to have a look at Tix4Tonight - it looks like they do have tickets sometimes according to their website...does anyone happen to know what sort of prices they are? I think I would be happy to just book and be done with it and if Tix4Tonight discounts aren't significant maybe I can talk him into it...or if they are significantly discounted then I would be OK to wait.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I think the currency change is profit taking and Milibands visit to the US will worry the markets. The big problem will be next year as the election gets near.0

Used Navfree USA on latest trip. Absolutely useless! ...no tell a lie, I'd give it about 2/10 ..once in a blue moon it worked to a usable level.
The APP definitely uses no data whtsoever, so no cost at all. Downloads for states need to completed before use. Nevada, Utah and Arizona were pretty big files! (Download before you leave UK)0
