Having lots of issues at the Platinum at the moment. Could be the end of the road for us. Will post all when we get home.
But a little taster. We are sitting by the pool got to be over 40 degrees. Ask the girl who comes around if we can have some ice water, she comes back with 2 cups with ice in them, says " there's a fountain in by the toilets, you can fill these up in there"
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Hello all - been a while since I popped my head in here!

After my boys trip to Vegas last November I've just booked to go in September with my brothers-in-law.

Flights were looking a bit ludicrous direct (£950rtn) so I've decided to do one of these sneaky Ex-EU routes which means I have booked an avios flight to Dublin in the morning from LHR and then I have a flight from DUB back to LHR to pick up the afternoon BA route to Vegas.

So its £750 (flights and hotel for 1 person) for 3nts in September and I'll be back in the Monte Carlo - will be the hottest I've ever experienced it out there so looking forward to some pool action.

These Ex-EU flights really do bring the price down. The cheapest I could see my dates on expedia for the flight and hotel was £900 but that wasn't flying BA. In fact the BA equivalent is listed at £1150 so I'm seriously moneysaving this time round!

First trip for OH on 26th September for 2 weeks (my 3rd time)! Car for first week (only really wanted it for about 4 days but 7 days exactly the same cost).

She is hinting at a hotel the night before, extend it a little bit once again (it started at about 9 nights when we started planning this) :D

Hilton South Terminal is £189 including 16 nights long stay south - as parking along is £118 I am convincing myself it is worth it!! Slightly cheaper off site but for the marginal cost difference I would rather just walk into the terminal...

Surely you asked your "booking buddy" if that was the level of service now offered by the Plat?

    Quick canvas of opinion.

It looks like Hotwire have a pretty good deal on the Palazzo for our dates later this year - one of the secret hotel/Hotrate numbers. It works out to be $100 per night off the website rate and cheaper than any promotion than I can get for Aria (which was initially where we were talking about staying).

Only issue is that you can't request bed set up via Hotwire, i.e. 2 x queens instead of 1 x king.

As a group of guys we don't fancy sharing beds! Does anyone have any experience of emailing the hotel direct after booking a Hotwire room?

The alternative is to do it anyway and do the $20 trick at check-in. From what I read on the various forums, it tends to work at Palazzo and as a worst case scenario is bound to get us a bed preference (as opposed to a true upgrade). It's also my birthday whilst we're there, which may help.

we justify the Hilton every trip...if you are flying Virgin then it's even nicer as it's easy to use Twilight check-in the night before and get rid of the checked luggage and then just go to security on the morning...only thing is you have to plan your overnight bag carefully due to liquid restrictions but we have used the Hilton and Twilight check-in every trip for years and to us it really is worth the extra money.

We normally also end up talking ourselves into the Exec room upgrade...access to the lounge (nibbles, wine, beer and soft drinks until 8 or 9, breakfast in the morning - offerings are not huge but it's plenty for a pre-flight breakfast for us, a few hot things and plenty of cold things, free wifi, use of their rather crappy PCs and printers which have come in handy before) too...
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I think the Hilton is overpriced for what it is -and prefer the cheaper and more off the wall Yotel which is spitting distance of the Virgin check in desk. The cabins are tiny- a bit like cabins on a ferry but very modern with a good monsoon shower, wifi and TV. There's another one opened almost next door to Yotel very recently too. Has the advantage of not having to mess about with shuttles but without the Hilton price tag.

i second ferf's thumbs up for the Hilton... we do the same and see it as an extension of the holiday! the bar there is really nice, food is good if you want an evening meal (buffet style) and/or breakfast.

the parking is right next door as well, so you don't have to muck about with shuttles, etc.

makes such a difference to start the holiday at the airport!

in terms of toiletries, we just pack a a couple of cheap toothbrushes which we put in the bin, and use travel-sized deodorants, etc. If you've any favourite toiletries which you can dispense, then get some the little screw-in tubs which you can put one-day's worth of gloop in :)

OH has also been known to put her straighteners in hand luggage!
