That's true if you're staying at a Caesars property and the resturant accepts TR points - more do now, a few years ago some of those not owned by CET didn't so charging to the room was the way around it, the way to use points for something you couldn't at the point of purchase.

Agree that whatever amount your bill says with any specials, etc. is the amount of TR points that will be needed to cover it...no weird now you have to pay full price if you're using points or anything.

Great news...I can get even more for my free points if it includes happy hours :)

Here's another thought...although I'm thinking this one won't work. If I use a LVA 2/1 buffet at Rio, can I put the other buffet on my TR card and use points? We will definitely do the Rio buffet but have a 2/1. Harrah's we have a 25% off and Planet Ho we have a $10 off. Unfortunate that the places we have LVA coupons for are the same ones we'd like to use the points at. Shouldn't complain really :rotfl:

Lastly, does anyone know any nice Italian places that I could use my Total Rewards points at?

Could you use your existing smartphone (or a tablet, maybe) and access the internet in the USA via the free wi-fi facilities provided by hotels/motels, restaurants, etc?

Apologies if that's a crazy suggestion.

No, it's not an option to use existing smartphone as I said. :) This much I am sure of. I already do what you suggest above with that phone. I need a separate phone with ability to have a separate UK and a US number.

Yes, you can do this. Any balance due after vouchers/specials can be paid for with TR points assuming they are accepted at the outlet otherwise. The points are sort of like cash - think of it that way...you can use them however you want to pay your bill (or part of your bill) as you would if you had cash - assuming TR points are accepted.

Might be worth a look at the Motorola Moto G, I believe Tesco sell them for around £100 - £110 and they are (apparently) easy to unlock. Or you could pay a little more and get it from Amazon or Google so it's unlocked from the start.

Don't think they are 4G ready but not sure if that's a problem. Full specs here:

Forgot to add, I would recommend a Three 3-2-1 PAYG SIM card which is 3p per min, 2p per text and 1p per MB of data which can also be used whilst in USA at the same prices.

thanks you - that is one of the phones I had identified but I also don't know about the 4G thing, if it's an issue (it was at that point I started getting skittish about doing this without help. :)

Nokia Lumia 520 into the mix...

Just remember to make sure whatever you buy is quad-band... though I can't imagine many modern / touchscreen-type device not being

Remember PAYG phones from Carphone Warehouse are usually (reluctant to say always, but it seems to be the case) unlocked, so work out cheaper than being the Simfree version

Thank you - I will look into that one too and I did not know that about Carphone Warehouse PAYG...will investigate...my searches confused me as I couldn't see tri-band/quad-band mentioned in the specs of a lot of them and then I got more confused...I used to know US = tri-band, that much I knew a few years ago...

hubby is an avid HDUK person so if I give him some specs he will watch out for me. :)

4G is certainly not essential, my phone isn't 4G. It's only if you really need the super-fast data speeds that 4G offers, although currently there are only certain areas where you can pick up 4G anyway.

I got one of these while I was here. It seems to be just what we need for the USA. Works fine so far, but there is no MyVegas mobile app for windows phones so Tony doesn't like it. Is this the same as nvh mentioned?

Thanks - I think it is the same one nvh mentioned so will add it to the short-list. I really don't expect to use it much so it sounds like it might do the trick. :)

From memory, didn't USA skip 3G and go straight to 4G?
