I called Virgin last week and asked about this. I'm going PE in August and was waiting for 1 April, but then I saw the announcement on the website. The guy I spoke to said even the Virgin Atlantic staff are really confused by it and he wishes they would just either launch the new system or not launch it, and forget about this staggered thing.

The eventual answer I got was that he believes my flight will be available for seat selection 60 days before, but he said he wouldn't be surprised if it changed again so I should keep checking!

That's quite annoying. I suppose I'd better keep on checking too. I normally fly united or AA and they not only let you choose (or they did!) at time of booking but they also show the seat plan and available seats before you book. It's so much easier that way.

On a completely different (and a bit odd) note does anyone go into the high limit slot areas in casinos? Last time I was in Vegas I went in the one in Aria and discovered the ladies toilets had free stuff (small hair sprays and tampons in card tubes that don't get crushed in your handbag). I'm always on the lookout for anything useful and wondered if anyone else had found things in other casinos?

the whole Virgin seating thing has gotten tiresome as it seems it has been going on approximately forever now...it used to be you could choose your seats at the time of booking regardless of which cabin...and while it is annoying that they are going to start charging for pre-selecting seats in economy (it used to be one of our reasons for choosing them over BA, not having to pay to select seats) it was probably only a matter of time.

I get that they are upgrading their system and want to be sure that all works OK before unleashing it...and I understand that it's not a small undertaking with all the technology and interfaces involved...but sheesh, enough already. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Some talk about weather for Easter. My experience of the last three years at this time of year is that this year is proving no different to the previous two. You should safely ignore anything you see/hear that is longer than 10 days out.

This time last week, next week was going to be 80+ ... check the forecast and you'll see why mrs martmonk isn't too pleased...

Each of the last two years were the same. One scorching, and one not quite as warm as 'she' would like.

Checked in at MAN for the Vegas flight. It is completely full. Security was relatively painless and we are having a coffee and relaxing in T2.

I'll try to update the weather situation for those of you arriving soon.

Are they the £305 return flights on BA from lm.com? Presumably you will want to shower at LHR on the way back.......

And you will save the £35 on parking at STN rather than LHR.
