    Hah - you should see some of the US forums - people investing more in a month than we *earn* in a month as a couple!

    happy new year one and all :)

    we hosted NYD lunch for the parentals. They've requested that we make it an annual tradition as a good time was had by all. I did roast beef with all the trimmings. There was so much left over that OH have had another roast each for tea tonight and I'm making bubble and squeak cakes for tomorrow :D There's also enough beef to make a curry.

    One of my goals for 2015 is to cut right down on food wastage. To this end, tomorrow's tea will be a SC potato bake concoction, using up a load of YS Christmas eve spuds from aldi, the left over bacon from the pigs in blankets, and the left over cream. Meals for next week are all planned around food we already have in. The annual New Year's health kick will start full force on Monday, as routine is a big motivator for me.

    Jobs for tonight
    * [STRIKE]pay council tax online[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]ring HSBC to set up a regular saver for our monthly savings. This will earn 4%. We have no plans to touch it, but we could access the money if we found ourselves up the proverbial creek.[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]open tesco online saver (1.4% AER) to rehome our emergency fund from a peanut paying Post office account.[/STRIKE]

    I've joined MFW2015 with a target of £3k and have updated my sig. The bulk of this will come from built in OPs (we've kept our mortgage payment the same, even though the contractual payment has fallen each year thanks to our OPs. It is money we're used to not having, so we've never missed it).

    Thought I'd try something new with the goals for 2015. I'm going to set 4 key ideas, and then have monthly challenges/jobs to help me make progress in each aspect.

    So without further ado, my themes are:

    1) Financial health
    2) My health
    3) Get the house ship shape
    4) work/life balance

    and January's goals

    1) Financial health
    * move money from PO account and close account
    * contact L&C to investigate remortgage options
    * email solicitor to get ballpark figure for remortgage conveyancing
    * siphon off food and petrol money - surplus towards OP
    * siphon off project money (see post #159)

    2) My health
    * 8 hours sleep a night
    * ankle strengthen exercises for a month so I can't use them as an excuse for not doing more strenuous exercise from Feb onwards
    * try Pop Pilates' beginners course

    3) Get the house ship shape
    * hang clock and prints in kitchen
    * re-list items on gumtree to clear space in room of doom
    * assemble side table
    * get shade for lamp

    4) work/life balance
    * minimum 2 days out with OH
    * read 2 books
    * finish breaking Bad s2
    know thyself

    Seconded :T
    A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
