With respect I think you misunderstood, close family and friends receive one, so I take into consideration the cost of travelling to the shops, parking, the stamps, having to drive to the post box to post the cards. Rightly or wrongly I estimate £1 per card so that's what I put toward a donation to the charity of choice. It's a personal decision as are other peoples choices/traditions, if some think I'm wrong so be it but I was just answering the OP. I hope I'm big enough not to criticise what others find annoying or offensive.

I've gone back and read the post and it says nothing about giving cards to anyone though.

' People who think Christmas cards are more important that a charitable donation. My family are treated throughout the year and told I love them, the day or date makes no difference. I give £1 to charity in place of every card I would have sent, so far my charity will receive £86.'

This reads that you give money in place of cards and so that's how I answered.

  • My newest annoyance - knowing you've got one last gift to wrap but not remembering where in the house you've put it!

The purpose of the mid-winter festival is to bring a bit of cheer to the darkest and coldest part of year, and specifically to eat all the animals that you can't afford to feed until spring. It's a shame that those damn Christians hijacked it to their own ends but ho hum such is life...

    What was Australia's excuse?
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.
  • Hubby quadruple sellotaping every present. Every year.

He quadruple sticks each end of each present with four long pieces of tape that go from one edge of the present to the opposite. The middle bit of the wrapping paper has three pieces - a short piece, a longer piece and then a massive long piece that goes from side edge to side edge.

No matter what I do I cannot get him to stop doing it. After 10 years the amount of money we have spent on sellotape has probably bought the champagne at the Henkel shareholders meeting.
