The little annoyances of Christmas

Don't get me started on cards.....
I don't send to work colleagues at all, no point really.
I do send to family and close friends. Every year I get the kids photo done and get personalised cards made to send to Grandparents and family members who live further away....until my mum mentioned to me that a grandparent had complained that I obviously couldn't be bothered to find one that had 'Nana' printed on the front cover......looks like I wasted time and money for nothing. Next year I'm sending a card from a multipack out of stubbornness!

Great thread!
People posting pics of their Xmas tree on Facebook almost in competition. Why??
Perishable food shopping - people possessed is spot on.
One year, with the rest of the food shop already done and only veg to get I had 2 clinging kids who'd been throwing up, it was now Xmas eve and I still couldn't get there. OH came home from work, I'm in tears totally stressed and thinking we'll be having frozen peas. He toddles off to Mr T at the eleventh hour and got sprouts, carrots and all the other veg reduced to 35p or less Wouldn't want to risk it every Xmas though, that's why I'm off early today!Be not so busy making a living that you forget to make a life0 -

I haven't written or sent a card in years...
People buy too much food and then throw it away. But not MSEers of course!!!

I used to spend hours making individual hand-made Christmas cards for friends and workmates. Stopped doing that now after realising just how little the effort was valued. Very few people genuinely appreciated that I'd put a lot of work into them and I got annoyed when some workmates left the card on their desk over the Christmas break (surely they could have taken it home at least!) and then slinged it in the bin without a second thought when they were back in the office! Made me realise that it's better to keep my craftiness to myself so only make things for me now!
My annoyance this year is the sheer cost of hosting dinner. We've got the out-laws coming and PIL have given us £50 towards it but that barely even covered the meat!I just know that the BILs will eat and leave with no offers to help, we'll be lucky if they bring anything and they don't appreciate the cost and time put into feeding them!

I nearly sent out the stack of Christmas cards I didn't bother giving out last christmas.
At least I thought it was last Christmas, thought I'd better check and discovered they were from so long ago 2 of the recipients had new partners, card had exs name on and at least 3 babies had been born.
Imagine if I'd just sent them as I was intending!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -

Interestingly, I once had a colleague have a go at me for giving Christmas cards once, 'instead of donating to charity'. She soon shut up when I told her I did both, but didn't feel the need to broadcast it as she did.
With respect I think you misunderstood, close family and friends receive one, so I take into consideration the cost of travelling to the shops, parking, the stamps, having to drive to the post box to post the cards. Rightly or wrongly I estimate £1 per card so that's what I put toward a donation to the charity of choice. It's a personal decision as are other peoples choices/traditions, if some think I'm wrong so be it but I was just answering the OP. I hope I'm big enough not to criticise what others find annoying or offensive.0
