Just an idea, but maybe there will be things at the inlaw's house you might be able to sell. That might help them and you.
I am sure you can come up with a great idea for both of you to make a little money.
Thanks Kelpie, It's a good idea and the inlaws are hoping to bring all their extra stuff over to put in our barn, but I think they expect me to sell it all and just pass the money onto them. Don't think they expect to pay anything for the many hours it takes to list everything.
The only way we might eventually profit from it is if they never sell the stuff and we end up with it by default when they pass away. Could be many many years away obviously.
Will see how it all goes over the next two weeks xxxx0 -
Oh dear....It's all gone abit pear shaped this morning
Hubby was booked in the build some gate pillars for the next two weeks to take him nicely up to his operation. Well...He woke to an answer phone message this morning cancelling the job .
He has spent the morning calling round potential works from people who have mentioned things they might want doing but so far nothing.
We have two small building jobs to quote for (timber garage & timber extension). Hubby has also been pricing those this morning but they are something that won't come together for another month or two, so nothing that will solve our current immediate problem.
Poor hubby, he is so stressed out. We chatted about how on earth I could find a more steady job and we looked at him taking time off to cover kids holidays, but after doing the calculations it just doesn't add up.
I have promised to do what I HAD planned on doing but had so far chickened out and that's going round local beauty salons trying to get some part-time Reflexology / Indian Head Massage work. My local Spa that currently employs me seems to maybe give me 3 treatments per month if I am lucky which just doesn't scratch the surface of the amount of money I should be earning. Hubby also explained that if I could up the amount of treatments I am doing I could afford to quit the soul destroying cleaning jobs that I am currently doing.
I am going to research all the spa's and salons in my area and then get my certificates in a folder, get my treatments clothes on and go knocking on doors. I am so terrified of doing it, but I have to try and get myself out there.
Otherwise I can try to advertise myself locally as mobile but I haven't had much luck with that in the past.
Thankfully I haven't yet paid any credit cards etc, so will store any spare money up to cover the mortgage payment as I think I need to prioritise who gets paid this month.
I hate self-employment its so scary0 -
Hi Steph,
I've been a bit awol lately. Happy Birthday for last week! Sounds like you had a wonderful time
Definitely get out there and get yourself round the local spa's and salons. Just put on a brave face and smile - don't be scared.
Good Luck xxDebt FREE thanks to YNAB0 -

ive just bought loads of meat from a friend who has his own pigs
some of it was already frozen
he just already had prices on it and we chose what we wanted x0 -

Hi Fern,
I have put hubby on the emergency cancellations list so I guess unless we hear anything then there is no earlier appointments.
I have done the calculations and as long as we do not have ANY misc spending then we should be able to at least get the mortgage and direct debits paid. the debts might get missed this month but my credit score is destroyed anyway. xxxxalso whats the situation with your lambs etc ?

The lambs are still running around in the field. Doubt they will be ready until autumn time. We usually use the four lambs & four pigs to fill our two big chest freezers and then that is us pretty much set for meat which makes the shopping bill lots better. Could always sell some joints if we are strapped for cash at the time. Unfortunately they are not fat enough yet
thanks loads for your ideas though xxxx0 -
Hi steph,
I haven't responded for a while, but I have been following you. You have done so well with your MSE efforts to clear your debts and you are an inspiration.
I have a few thoughts about your treatments:
1. If you have a mobile equipment, could you go to people's houses and give treatments?
2. How about contacting local businesses and going in and doing discounted treatments for their staff. The business benefits are that they keep their workforce healthy. A colleague I used to work with had a partner who did the same treatments and as a one off, came in and did some treatments on us. Speak with people you know and see if they would approach their employers for you.0 -
flying visit, can hubby join one of those need a builder websites? to generate work?
Still as long as you can pay the mortgage and hang in there - you are very good at that. Hang in there XXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Oh Steph, I hope you got sorted this week with work for DH or yourself. Sounds like a nightmare xxMummytogirls x0

How awful of the people to cancel at such short notice. I hope something else turns up soon and/or that you find something VERY well paying.
