  • I agree, investing in you is a good thing, and yoga will definitely help with your stress levels too. I do Bootcamp twice a week and it's the best £40 a month I could hope to spend. It's not selfish to look after yourself; if you're happier, your family will be too x

Hehe eco, I think she might do Tuesday nights I am not sure as I only wanted something during the day so that I didn't have to worry about clashing with everyone elses hectic clubs etc.

My yoga teacher is Tanya Green. She's amazing, and even though I doubt it will make me fit, it is certainly stretching muscles that are not used to being pestered hehe. Its just the tranquillity of it and the cool down at the end that does me the world of good.

I REALLY think we ought to meet one day eco. Our lives cross paths too often :D

    Morning diary,

Had a terrible start to my day and feeling on the verge of tears.

If you read my diary you will know that I am always having problems with Ds in school, he has undiagnosed issues and one of his main problems is he doesn't seem to get the "cause and effect" social issue at the moment.

So he seems to often annoy other children who then retaliate and then he is all shocked and upset as to why people are being horrible to him.

So this morning I had an appointment in school with the Senco teacher to discuss some new programme they will be starting with him to boost Ds's self-esteem. Ds has been having weekly chats with this lady to discuss any worries etc.

This morning she basically dissected our family life, saying as an outsider she has observed that my husband is distant and negative with our son and I am too soft and over compensate which gives him no boundaries .

Now I must admit that my husband is quite a disciplinarian and unfortunately as he is so busy, the only time he gets involved with parenting is when he needs to tell Ds off for something, so I can see that she is right in a way, but to then say that I give in to him too often and I am too soft is really upsetting.
Yes I admit that if the children want to start a club etc then I let them do it, but if they misbehave they get a punishment and a telling off like any other child.

I don't know....I have just kind of come away feeling like its all my fault and I feel pretty miserable

its a tough lonely job raising children :(

It's not at all your fault like you say if they're naughty they are punished therefore you do set boundaries........what did she suggest you do???? Most dads who work normally leave the majority of the parenting up to the mum and at least your husband is steeping in if he feels that your son has crossed the line showing he is there for you and your son xx

    Oh Steph (((( ))))

I don't understand why she has decided that your family ways are the wrong way - I didn't know that there was a book on how to bring up your children.

Our children are what they are, ok, we can try to mould them in to what we want but at the end of the day they are all individuals.

I dread to think what this lady would make of my family, my DH is a right mardy sod and I basically let my kids do what they want (they are 12 and 18). I am the least maternal person I know - we joked the other night that on a list of non-maternal people I am number 4 after people like Myra Hindley , Rose West etc!!

I think the SENCO saying what she did this week was not ideal given how low you are feeling - what a bummer the meeting fell this week.

I hope you can set some support from dawnybabes and also if your parenting is so wrong what exactly do they want doing differently?? What if you do it differently and your son is still the same? Will she come up with some other reason??

oh it's blame the mother time is it. That makes me so angry. If you have the energy you make a complaint. Positive and focused, a disabled mum who used to post, had a lot of trouble from her daughter's primary but didn't let it drop. She was very inspiring in dealing with that.
Stay strong. Showing weakness will make them feel they're right. Is there anywhere else you could get true support rather than this unhelpful blame game?

What did your DH say? How awful of her to wade in and criticise like that. Hope you can find genuine support elsewhere.. Is it worth talking to the head teacher about this unhelpful senco? Xxx
