Mk6 Golf and EGR valve issues

I did ask for the defective part, which was given to me without any challenge. My thought at the time was that I could get it independently examined, but that would not be without cost, and even with a favourable report - i.e. that the valve was faulty, I would then have to take VW to court and would entail more cost.
That said, I think it is worth asking VW to give you the part they are replacing.0 -
Knowing not a lot about engines, is the above http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34311819 related in any way to the EGR valve?0

No it's not...0

Let's await for what comes out from EU's investigation on VW. If by any way the current emission scandal can be linked to the undue strain on the DPF and Engine components, hopefully we can get some respite by getting compensation.0

I doubt that is the case, infact, the opposite is more likely to be true.0 -
Audi A3 1.6 TDI 2010 EGR valve failed at 59,000 miles and the car had a full Audi Service History. Had it replaced by an independent in Cambridge cost £873 inclusive of parts labour and VAT.
20,000 miles later (18 months) and the EGR has failed again. Car is now with main Audi dealer as Audi/VW policy requires genuine faulty parts (under warranty) to be replaced only by main the dealership. When will VW finally issue a recall and compensate those who have had to pay out?0 -

Yes, class action lawsuit and mucho, mucho compo. With any luck you'll be able to hand your car back, get a free car, get a refund on the finance, get a free car, get compo for loss of time, money, earnings, health, benefits, attractiveness, and did I say you might get a free car?

Dear all
Ive got a 2012 Golf 1.6 TDI with less than 35k miles on the clock.
I brought the car at auction which at the time wasn't bothered but now I'm getting the flashing amber glow plug light on my dash.
I went to an independent garage and he diagnosed the problem as an EGR fault. He said with such low mileage it might just need cleaning.... to replace it will be expensive.
Reading this thread quite extensively I am now in two minds as to where I go from here.
I'm tempted to just getting it cleaned if thats what is needed and then I'll get it serviced through out (change all filters, plugs etc)
I guess I woud love some direct advice and what I should really do!?!0 -
I have an Audi A4, 2.0 TDI. The EGR failed at 93k miles.
My bf at the time, cleaned the valve but it didn't do the job. I had to get it replaced. Sometimes cleaning it does the trick and mine was really filthy.
Audi quoted me £522 to replace the valve but I got the part myself for £210 and got the bf to fit it.
It might be worth just getting it cleaned because if it does the trick, you'd save a considerable amount.
Good luck!0 -
A few things we know so far:-
1. The software was set up to give false readings for NO2 emissions
2. The EGR valve is designed to reduce NO2 emissions
3. The failure of the valves is electronic and not mechanical
4. The car works perfectly well with the valve blanked off
5. The replacement EGR valve is a different part to the original part
All the above, suggests to me that there must be some connection. And yes, I do think there needs to be compensation. If VW had told me when I bought the car that I would be faced with a big engine repair bill after relatively few miles, and that the environmental impact data was made up, I would not have bought the car.0
