Nothing more to it just a simple date error eg, 16/11/2013 when it should have been 16/12/2013
So glad I don't work for your firm.
Unless there was some other implication of the date being wrong then it sounds like the person's face didn't fit /wasn't pally with the bosses enough and management were looking for any excuse to get rid2014 Target;

Or they have only been there a short time so getting rid is easy, wouldn't have tried to sack somebody with a simple error like that if they had been there 5 years.
I couldn't live with myself for sacking somebody for that reason especially right on Christmas time.0 -
Surely if a correct date was so important, there should have been a checking process in place? Or was the sacked person the quality controller?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

That can be a fairly big error to be perfectly honest, it could be the difference between something being done on time & something not being done at all. While it does seem a little OTT for a "fat finger" mistake it's one that should have been double checked before completion - particularly if it has an effect on the above. It's all situational ofcourse, but in a world whereby data entry can be done by a lot of people looking for work with as close to 100% accuracy as is possible, one mistake can be enough I'm afraid.
Perhaps it's because I'm not wired properly (and the fact I've never had to y'know, fire anyone!) but I think as someone in a position to hire & fire you need to be disconnected. If you allow yourself to be hamstrung by emotions it can lead to problems with guilt on down the line, I'm afraid the way I see it, if someone needs to be let go then it's gotta be done. In life if you allow yourself to be so invested in everything emotionally it will come back to bite you, I'm not saying the answer is be a cold hearted sod like me, but I think not mixing empathy with sympathy is key. (I'm cold hearted, it's not that I'd enjoy sacking someone, but if it was the right decision I wouldn't be bothered by it.)
Good luck with the rest of the week - sounds like you might need a bit of something to get you through it.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

Glad to say I'm not as cold hearted as you - what an existence that must be !0 -
Come on OP, there must be more to the sacking than a simple date error, if not it is very harsh and plainly wrong to dismiss them. I take it you were told to do this rather than came to this conclusion yourself?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

18 world billion, not a UK billion as well.
Gordon Brown no return to boom or bust. :eek:0 -
Yeah it is getting more like oliver twist everyday
Today I bumped into one of the top selling people I started with on the temp assignment or should that be the one I had a lucky escape from, was disgusted to hear employer heartless so and so got rid because he dared ask for help in the 13th day of employment, he hit the targets everyday and turned up for work as the eager beaver out of all of us :mad:
What is it coming to
Given the heave ho 9 days to xmas, reduced to busking I felt sad for him and SHOCKED0 -
I would be more worried about your own job.
Does not exactly sound like a responsible employer, getting a few pence more an hour to do the dirty work is hardly going to protect you.Be happy...;)0 -
Everybody makes mistakes. If entering a date wrongly is such a serious offence there should be a procedure in place to catch such an error.0
