Sacking people at Chrismas.....

How do people feel having to do this at Christmas?
I know if your role in the company is to just get on with it, but as it's Christmas I'm feeling mentally stressed.
One person was let go yesterday and I felt sick to my stomach when they started crying. Another will be told on Friday but I honestly don't think I could cope with another scene.

It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

The first person made one error on a spreadsheet.
The second person has had multiple complaints from rolling in work really late (12 noon) and smelling of alcohol..
Getting to work 2.5 hours late claiming the wind stopped them getting to work even though they live 10 minutes away.
Falsifying the timesheet in front of the MD.....and when pulled about it claimed they couldn't read the 24 hour clock!!!!!It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

The 1st person i'd feel awful about sacking near to Christmas.
The 2nd person has it coming and deserves it (IMO).0 -
It would depend on the magnitude of the error on the spreadsheet - that can range from being a minor pain in the backside to costing a LOT of money, if it's a simple enough mistake which didn't lose any money I'd consider it harsh. (clearly if it was the second option it's justifiable)
The second one though I would have absolutely no problem with, by the sounds of it there won't be a scene over that one as if the events as written are true, it sounds like that's been the plan on their end.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Whatever the reason dismissing someone is a horrible experience to go through
But remember, if you do not do your job properly it can affect the company as a whole and could put other employees jobs at risk in the long run. The timing isn't great but always look long termDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
This spread sheet error was a big deal? We have all done it surely. How long have they both been at the company? The first person made one error on a spreadsheet.

The error on the spreadsheet was something very simple and it had no financial impact on the company. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Gideon Osborne made an 18 billion pound error on his when talking about cutting deficit.
