I ordered a camera worth £852.85 on 12 Apr 14 the retailer SimplyElectronics looked genuine, based in UK, with 5 star ratings from a genuine looking rating company and many glowing customer feedbacks on their website etc. The price was the cheapest, fastest delivery 2 to 3 working days, plenty of items in stock. It was all too good to be true for me as it was my dream camera.
I paid in full straight away. I did not receive any receipt no confirmatory email etc no response in their 24 hrs telephone no (overseas line) alarm bell went off. Googled the company and saw thousands of customers from UK being conned. Then my nightmare began not to mention the constant shouting from my wife on a daily basis.lol.
I started ringing their telephone hotline on a daily basis lasting my calls 30 – 45 mins and eventually they answered and asked me for my order number which they never supplied in the first place. I had no reference number to complain about as I did not have any evidence of this purchase.
It was on the 10th day after various angry phonecalls they gave me an email address to log my complaint to "support@simplyelectronics.com" which never worked. I had waited now long enough and they still did not give me any reference to my order to work with let alone my camera.
Everything about this retailer started looking fake to me as they would say whist on the phone you are now next in the cue with waiting time of less than a minute but after 20 minutes I would still be waiting. They are generating money via their phone calls too with all fraustrated caller waiting on the phone for a long time.
There were clear indications of their fraudulent activities by false representation, failing to disclose information and abuse of position contrary to Fraud Act 2006.
I had bought the camera for my relative's wedding which is now gone and I had to buy an alternative camera for it.
I then filed report to my credit card bank, PayPal, Trading standards and Actionfraud.police.uk
The retailer then decided to send me a tracker number for DPD when I checked with DPD and waited for further 10 days but they only initiated a tacker number but didn't send the actual product.
Now more than 30 days have passed still no sign of my camera luckily I had PayPal to fight my case and just received my refund.
Simply Electronics have been my worst online buying experience by far. God knows where this fraudulent company operates from or who are behind it but we all have to keep reporting to every law enforcement establishments in UK to get them banned from Google.
It looks like they've been doing this for a long time and are still very much active.0 -

be aware everone who is looking to buy someting from simply electrnocs. The web makes u believe it is a genuine uk websit with a £ signa dn uk customer helpline with a very good deals but ever wonder why is little cheap than other genuine website because they are based on china and is a chinese company. They dont even have a headquater in here and pick up the phone through some of their feriend leaving in uk. They directly put you to the HK line when you call uk no thats the reason you have to wait minimun 40 min just listening to their crap music. I have this awful experience witht the,. I though it was a genuine website nd bought a camera but unfortunately i had to wait nearly a months. they do anything to decieve anyone just to get a little amount of bucks. I am tellling you infact i promise you, you will regret it if you buy from them. I came to this length going to different website just to warn people how crap they are in their customer service. I am now getting my money returned but also not sure if i will ever get.
I've got absolutely no idea what you are talking about.0 -
What may catch some people out is the similarity of the name to Simply Computers, who were definitely a reputable UK based e-tailer.
IIRC Simply computers were taken over by Misco some years ago.
It is definitely annoying to get caught out in this way. On Ebay a fair number of Far East based sellers would list their items on Ebay UK, then deliberately obfuscate the real item location by entering a UK one such as "Wolverhampton,UK". It is only after you ended the auction and tried to pay that you'd realize the item was in China or Hong Kong rather than the UK. Ebay have finally cracked down on this.
As regards to Simply Electronics, not much you can do other than be alert (there is no association between Simply Computers and Simply Electronics) and always do a Bing/Google search on a retailer before you use them.0 -
I have placed an order from SE website about 10 days ago.... i found a Samsung tablet £40 cheaper than retail so jumped on the opportunity. Since the status of my order has only now changed to " stock allocation", i was getting worried and decided to have a look at reviews: What have i not done that before buying??.
i have sent 2 emails and got 2 automated replies, tried to call a number in the US and was put on hold forever. I realised that the company is HK based.
This makes me think that if the tablet is ever dispatched it will not comply with UK standards ( charger..) i am even scared that the product has chinese settings therefore useless to me.
Also, i saw that there might be some custom fees ( how much will that be??)
I am tempted to contact AMEX credit card ( i purchased with my card) MAYBE THE ONLY WISE THOUGHT I HAD IN THAT WHOLE PROCESS.
Any help in what to do will be appreciated.
thank you so much.

I ordered an Ipad air (paid by CC) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4957329.
The Ipad arrived and is as described (No Import Charges). It was a day outside the 10 working days advertised so can't really fault them. I did keep on top of them by email (all replied to promptly and politely albeit from Hong Kong) and they quite obviously didn't have stock when I ordered as one of the updates showed the item awaiting shipment and a few hours later changed to awaiting allocation.
I think the website is misleading as this is obviously a Hong Kong company and which is why delivery takes so long. Would I use them again? Not too sure as the website order updates are inane and misleading.
It does appear that I am one of the lucky ones but for anyone wishing to contact them by email I had a response every time from info@simplyelectronics.net.
Good luck0 -
I looked at that website, for a £300 camera, and they were a good £100 cheaper at just under £200 than any of the competitors. So, considering they appear to be a company supplied from china, I thought about how they could be so cheap, it was a "is it real, or is it Memorex" moment. I decided to buy from a UK supplied company in the end. I'm sure they are fine, and everything is above board, but it was just too cheap for me.0

Simply Electronics issues have several threads on MSE...please do your research.0

Just purchased a canon 6d with a 24 - 70mm lens it took longer than they said on the website, but it arrived fine and a few hundred quid cheaper than most, I will use again.0
