... would appreciate some advice about freezing carrots, potatoes, fine beans and sprouts, in particular, do I have to blanch them first or can I just put them straight in the freezer? - told you it was a silly question!

No such thing as a silly question. Totally agree with Pigpen about keeping all of them cool and in the case of potatoes, in the dark. Carrots, fine beans and sprouts should be blanched before freezing, so I'd put them in the fridge if you have the space (or a mouseproof box in a shed) and when you have time if you're not going to use them over the next few days, peel and cut them into the size you would want to cook them and then blanch them. Freeze them in the portion sizes you plan on using them.

The person I have strong feelings for is finally back in the UK

Good, and I hope that means you'll be seeing him. When you're ready to move on, you will. In the meantime, none of the love we give is ever lost; it makes you and him richer just by existing. (((Hugs)))

OH and I started our Christmas celebrations by going to see the new release of Cinema Paradiso. We both spent most of it sniffing and wiping leaky eyes and thoroughly enjoying ourselves in a totally self-indulgent orgy of gloriousness.

Valli, I have to ask - did you find the cellophane?

Thank you to everyone who sent me a Christmas card - they're all lovely! DGD1 had great fun opening them with me, as she spent the morning here while her parents went present-shopping with DGD2, who slept for much of the time so would not have noticed what was being bought ;)

DGD1 also helped me to unwrap my "little things" - a motley collection of small objects which have sentimental rather than monetary value: she loved doing that and laughed at the pig in the bath which is also my favourite and was given to me by my beloved short, rotund auntie in Somerset :rotfl:

I was worn out before she came and even more worn out after she left, so after lunch I slept on the sofa for a couple of hours. That has put me even further behind schedule for getting this place in order. I have sorted CDs and DVDs this evening whilst watching Strictly and intend to do a HHSort here in the study/bedroom before I go to bed and try to clear a box of papers. DH is having a down day, so has been about as much help as a chocolate teapot.

(((Hugs))) and spoons to all in need - but you all sound very organised :)
  • Thank you for all the Christmas cards - much appreciated.

My Secret Santa has been sent and I have received mine - thank you to all concerned xx

Just a little more to do on the front of this infernal jumper which I shall NEVER get done for the 26th I am certain.

I have both sleeves and the roll neck to do yet!

tomorrow has to be spent emptying the front room as best I can. I need to fit presents for 9 in there. inc 2 fairly large scooters .. I'm not sure it can be done. it may be a case of empty the back room to charity shop then empty the front room into there. The back room has definitely become dumping ground number 1!!!

Bed time in here.. OH has gone already  he must be ill!

    Tomorrow..

    Quick run to B&Q
Drop box with my mother and item for sister
Gut back room.. a lot can be flung.. I want at least *counts in head* 3 binbags to charity shop from in there. I could do more but might be setting myself up to fail.. 3 is doable!
NEXT vip slot at 7pm.. I have my beady eye on sofas.. mine are shafted!

    Anyway.. goodnight xx

  • Hello all,

I've been missing in action this week as the last week of term took over my entire life! I'm now enjoying my first day off in ages in my PJs. DC will be watching Christmas films and eating popcorn this morning whilst I attempt to sort out the shambles of our house. I have the entire list to do except the kitchen is fairly clean just two hotspots to clear. I've nearly finished guest bathroom too. Washing machine will be going full pelt all day.

    Hope all are well! :xmastree:

  • Hi all and welcome back to opto- mummy. Was wondering how your dear little one was doing?

We lost last night in the SCD final too and were delighted that Abbey won. What a final!!

Couldn't get to sleep easily so didn't wake up until just after 8 - which is very late for me.

List today - wash bedding and remake
Grouting finish in bathroom and tiny bit in kitchen
Print off recipes through until Sat 28th and check have all ingredients
Final shopping list - add more milk!
Dust and hoover through again - idea to keep on top of it in case of sudden visitors.
If time - more paper frog eating prior to making him hibernate in a cupboard over Christmas!!!!:rotfl:
    Hand wash DS jumper
Finish ironing - not much to go until the bottom of the basket.
Have a great day everyone. xx

Morning all. Another lie in for me today . I think I must have damaged my glasses somehow, although they look ok they don't feel comfortable, unless of course my head has changed shape in the night, I haven't looked in a mirror yet!

    Anyway today:

    Wash up
    Remake DDs bed
    Strip and remake our bed
Go in gym and actually break into a sweat
Lovely long soak in bath and make myself look human again
    Walk dogs
    Hoover and mop through house
    Cook beef for dinner
Carol concert this afternoon, by candlelight no less

I have put my cards on the doors this morning with blutack (thanks for the tip, I think it was Nicki) and I've watered my plants. Its a Sunday job here, but I think I'll be adding water to the bouquet a couple of times a day, it is really thirsty.

Will pop back in as the day progresses, have a great one everyone.
Spend less now, work less later.

    I'm still in bed :T
    Ish.
Have been downstairs for breakfast snacks and run a bath for DD - can see her from my room so she's having a bit of a splash in the warm water. DS is finding anything he can with letters on to try reading :D and I'm debating whether to get dressed or not...

Will get spare bed stuff washed today and do some baking with the littlies.

Mum coming over this morning too...

  • Oh, Honey Bear, I love Cinema Paradiso! How did you find the director's cut? I've heard it's wonderful.

I only watched this film for the first time a couple of years ago, as I wasn't a big film watcher until I got together with DH. When Salvatore answers the phone at the very beginning, DH started to cry (he's a big cry baby :)) and I was confused. By the end there were tear-stained tissues surrounding us both. So emotive and the cinematography is just beautiful.

I didn't get around to watching Idris last night, I was just too tired. DH still snoring beside me so I'll sneak out of bed to make coffee and have a pottery-tidy in a minute.
  • Morning all

I'm sat here extremely bleary eyed, decluttering a cuppa, took me forever to fall asleep last night (saw 2am) then drama queen kitty woke me up at 8ish this morning. She is a very persistent alarm clock with no snooze button!

Was pleased too that Abbey won SCD just2ofus, for someone who'd never danced before she was amazing.

HB no sadly I won't be seeing him as I know him from when I lived in my adopted home town. I will be moving back there in 2014 so hopefully next time he's over I will get to see him.

Like Pigpen I too will be attempt to finish knitting my niece's cardy.

Have a great day all *shuffles of to make more tea, cursing the drama queen kitty*
