Your sister wouldn't give the baby whatever name without loving it, so treat it as a compliment. The relationship with your sister will never improve if you don't stop thinking the worst of her.
You don't own the name so live and let live x

I'd be pretty annoyed if my sibling named their child the same/ similar as mine. Not because it's exclusively my name, just because it seems pretty rude!
Why is it rude? I can think of reasons why it might not be the most sensible thing eg confusion on occasions, but genuinely don't understand what's rude about it.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

I'd be miffed, but pleased that I used it first.
My sister used the name I'd told her we wanted for our first child for her third who was born a month before, having never mentioned it before during our many discussions on the matter. I was very upset. Luckily my child was the opposite sex and I got over it - although I have never forgotten or made the same mistake again.........[0 -
i would find it flattering, my partners niece named her second child after liking my brothers name
is john a name of someone already in or has been in your family ? i share the same name as my maternal great grandmother and my maternal grandmothers middle name
if my brother had been a girl, he would have got a very similar name to my paternal grandmother0 -

Well just personally, I'd find it rude. But I know my sibling wouldn't even think of it! I just think it's rude because although its not 'your name' it tends to be your name within the family. I wouldn't like to share my name with a cousin, especially if its male siblings with the same surname!0 -
I think your letting the rift in your family take over what should be a joyful occasion.
So what if she gives her child a similar name to your childs name? It says more about her than it does you! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Sometimes siblings just like the same name. My half-sibling (by my dad) named their daughter after my mum and that is what I had planned to do at some point in my life. I don't have kids so he just got there first.
It would be stupid for her to name her son something she didn't actually like just to annoy you. And if she has done so, that is her petty problem.0 -

My son has exactly the same first name as one of his cousins (and they got there first
). It's not a problem as they have not met since they were toddlers and are both in their 30s now

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Don't really see the problem. You're not close so what's the big deal?0
