At which point you can shut down the browser and choose to book somewhere else, should you wish to do so. No one forces you to make the booking.

I do that all the time. :)
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Since there is no additional charge for paying with a debit card, and only a 2% surcharge if you pay by a credit card, it is hard to see why this would have any impact on whether you booked a flight or not.

Though if the flight is above a certain figure there are other benefits of paying by credit card such as if the airline goes bust.

  • Frugalsod, your broad assessment is correct.

After years of abuse of consumers with arbitrary card fees, the OFT and I think CAA (interestingly because IAA is Ryanair's Air operators Certificate rgulator) finally forced them to stop the abuse last year.

As a regular customer of many years I think Ryanair is beginning to mellow a little as a more mature citizen (and is raking it in now with hiked fares that often are more expensive than competitors), but I think you are still right to doubt their offer and to watch out for new tricks ;)
From the late great Tommy Cooper: "He said 'I'm going to chop off the bottom of one of your trouser legs and put it in a library.' I thought 'That's a turn-up for the books.' "
