The proof of the pudding is twenty years down the line for every parent!! You have a way to go before you can pat yourself on the back I am afraid.;)

Having lost a sibling as a child I take every day/week/month as it comes.

  • Thanks very much for this post...completely Off Topic but I've spent the last year wondering what an 'ewuser' was that one would want to be noted as 'not one'.

I always read it as that too! I was like 'what's an ew user?'

Now with Nikki saying NANU, I've got Mork and Mindy in my mind now! :rotfl:

    Ah, I see......

As a parent you always need to be mindful of long term repercussions....if you aren't you can bet they will be. And, as you have testified they may never forget it or let you forget it.;)

Indeed. Which is why we take a flexible approach to parenting. We're led by her.

Luckily the school we've chosen celebrates differences and the pastoral care is excellent. I'm 100% confident that we won't have these issues.

The school my ds goes to is completely different, they almost encourage it. The children write letters to Santa, they make reindeer food. This year ds told me Santa had written to his class to ask them to write a story for him. He actually told me he didn't think Santa wrote the letter, he thought it was his teacher really.

I think that is the norm, that is not to say that if a particular family asked that their child not be included or encouraged they would not comply, but in general Santa is a part of most childhoods and so schools do run with it.

to the non believer: I thought that you said she was going to a santas grotto this year? and disliked it the last 2 years, so you basically introduced her to santa yet are critising other parents for doing the same. My son also disliked santa for the first 2 years his nursery had a grotto. By the third time he decided he liked him & bought well into it & still does. just fyi, you don't need to tell a child it's real for them to believe in something.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

    Are you talking to me?

No, I've never ever taken her to a grotto. The mother and toddler group she went to with my mum (not me) invites a santa in each year. She was 14 months the first time and couldn't get away fast enough. Last year she cried when she saw him (and she never cries) and refused to go near him. This year she's at the playgroup so is there on her own and they'll have the same guy in. I'm expecting to hear that she carried on playing and wouldn't go near him again. We'll see, won't we..........

Nobody was ever traumatised from believing in Santa, I wasn't. And I certainly don't use Santa as a way to get my niece or nephew to behave! They do as I say because they're 10 and 6 and I'm an adult. I really don't think believing in Santa is lying to your kids in the cruel way that some posters are making out.
