Just paid off the rest of my iPhone 5s on my O2 refresh contract for £500, so savings have taken a bit of a hit, but I'll be better off each month now.

I'm not going to update my savings totals until February payday as I'll be back on track then. :D

Just out of interest, is everyone saving up for something in particular (eg. holiday, house deposit etc) or are the savings more of a rainy day fund? OH and I are getting married next year :j and also our house really does need a new bathroom :o so my savings from this year will probably go towards those 2 things.

We paid off our mortgage a year ago, so the initial aim was to use spare cash to build up 6 months emergency fund (which scarily we'd never bothered with before). And then put some money aside to replace the car when it finally gives up. Now we've got that we're looking to the long term 'early retirement pot'... which in about 5 years' time should be enough to cover all the basic bills, and give us freedom to maybe go part-time, travel a bit more and generally get off the treadmill.

Today I got a credit card (first time for 12 years) to be used only for supermarket and filling station visits as it gives a reasonable amount of cash back. It also gives cash back for department stores but I keep well away from those, far to expensive to shop in. I use the same bank for my current account, opened last June, and so far have earned almost £200 just by having it pay some utility bills on dd. Have arranged for a dd to pay the credit card off monthly, both cards should all help toward my NZ fund.

Tilly tidied some money over to the Hamlet fund...I'm doing well here and not noticing the money coming out of my main account. Just waiting for the tickets to go on sale now!

Also the £365 in 365 money is coming along nicely-it's amazing how quickly these small amounts add up!

  • Happy February everyone,
Was everyone else as pleased as I was that it was payday last week?!?!

January total is £1,217.03, really chuffed with that amount given that l only managed to save £658 this time last year. I seem to remember having a hen weekend and a wedding in that month so look how much extra money you can save when you don't do anything all month!! ;-)

    Thanks

Just got my £125 for switching banks, I wasn't expecting this for a couple of months.
Only had 2 weeks worth of my wage go in and they've paid me early :D

The new year starts here for me... had a terrible January just paying off December bills and putting myself on a sustainable path to saving for the new month. I am hoping and this is hope i can save 2k this month that should nearly put me back on track for the terrible January (particularly if i can replicate it again). I am saving minimum 1200 a month now... all locked in so feeling really inspired about the new year.

P.S. Everyone feel really proud. Its not easy to save over a long period of time.
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Id like to save at least 10k by end of 2014. I ended up having to drop out last year due to losing my job. However I'm starting a new job this weekend and want to do it this year with a shining star :) 10,000 for me please slowlyfading :)
    Save 10k in 201 = 4000/£10000

    Debt free by 2014 :)
  • Little slip up, savings down as expected as paid for flights and hotel for our little holiday away next week. Makes me more egar to get the savings back up. Been working in heavy rain today just to try and make some money(on price work) as a low days pay is better than no days pay! And I have a guy working for me now that costs £1,500 a month. If we get a good fortnight of weather he will make me his months wage in it so half the month he's making me some money. Looking forward to getting past the starting hurdles again, 4/5k and it's all downhill from there!!
