Just out of interest, is everyone saving up for something in particular (eg. holiday, house deposit etc) or are the savings more of a rainy day fund?
Saving for a house deposit, but it would be really cool to also get a faster car. Both of these seem mutually exclusiveGoals

Just out of interest, is everyone saving up for something in particular (eg. holiday, house deposit etc) or are the savings more of a rainy day fund? OH and I are getting married next year :j and also our house really does need a new bathroom
so my savings from this year will probably go towards those 2 things.
For me it's both.
Realistically I'm looking at about £40,000 over 3.5 years for a house deposit/renovation budget and then another £10,000 as a rainy day/just in case fund.
My main goal is to buy a house that needs work doing to it so I can build up enough equity to reduce the LTV rate as much as possible and avoid the possibility of negative equity. I've seen too many people buy what they can't really afford and then bleat at how bad their luck is to not learn from their mistakes.0 -
I am at the other end of the career spectrum to most of you - I am hoping for early retirement at 60. My house will be paid off, I'll have a pension and a lump sum, but I am saving for a last push towards a nest egg to make up for all the years i've wasted!
Good luck to everyone saving for a deposit. I know it can seem a long slog, especially when you are paying out for rent, but it will be worth it. And better to have a decent sized deposit than negative equity.Save £12k in 2022 thread #7:

Have you called O2 to ask them if they can switch you to alternative contracts that will suit you better? I had a similar thing with 3 in December. When I called them they switched me to a different plan and they didn't charge me anything extra despite it being a 'downgrade'. I have been with them for a few years and also have 2 additional phone plans with them (those are PAYG). I only had 7 months left on my contract.
I have never negotiated any phone contract before and was calling to buy myself out like you so it was a nice surprise when they gave the SIM option.
If O2 won't let you out of the contract then personally I would pay to get out if you know it will save you that much long-term. That's what I was planning to do before they offered the downgrade. Good luck!
Neither of my contracts are eligible for changing tariffs, but I've decided what I'm going to do.
Pay off the O2 refresh contract for £500 thus making me £43 a month better off.
Keep the £37.15 contract until September when it ends naturally, using it in the meantime, then cancel and switch to giffgaff.
Thanks!What will your verse be?
