Well at the weekend there I went ahead and booked the big holiday for Little Miss Gap and myself. 2 weeks to California :D:j. I felt sick when my lovely savings became £3500 lighter _pale_ with still another £1000 to come off just for the holiday :( Just paid out for insurance (I have a chronic illness) and booked the cats into the cattery for 16 days. Still got trips/tours to organise and pay for

Would just like to say though: Good job I joined the £12k in 2013 in order to save for it!! ;) Thanks everyone for the encouragement last year, it was totally worth it :)

Thank you for all the good wishes. Met and had a cuddle with Macey yesterday...she's gorgeous but then I'm biased! Had a little cry because DD2 and her hubby have given her my name as a middle name, I'm really made up :heartpuls

I've been thinking about setting up some sort of investment for her, so she can buy a car, go to Uni etc. I'm particularly looking at Investment Trusts so will have a mooch round t'interweb, and these forums of course, and do some research.

We are all doing great, no matter about the amount we save, it's all fantastic.

    Love this thread X

I joined this challenge as soon as it started, but as I work out my savings at the end of the month, it seems ages since I've posted here.

Anyway, I hope I've done it right, I've submitted my spread sheet, and can report I've saved £1555.00 for January

  • Not good weather here so this week has more or less been a write off even with 2 days work still to come. Think I can declare at £1,260. Still done well even off 3 weeks wages. Need to carry on with the frugal living (including the 3 days im in Paris) and step up the overtime when weather makes it possible. £1,260x12=£15,120 so even after what feels like a really bad month I'm still on track to make my goal, must be due to the frugal living, staying in more and not spending so much when I do go out. Hopefully can end February with over £2,500 so I remain on course. Can't remember the username and posting on iPhone so fidgety but good luck to poster at the top of the page who is aiming for £30,000, double my target!!! It also happens to be my 2015 target. Whether it's realistic or not, time will tell.

Seen some great quotes on Facebook today that will keep me motivated, along the lines of "every expert starts as a beginner"

Exactly how I see myself, still a beginner setting the foundations.

  • Just moved £112.37 into the savings account :j

Tomorrow when DH pay hits the account I aim to move another £655 into the savings account so should be a monthly total of £857.

Will update the spreadsheet tomorrow for the month end.

    Just updated for January.
I am reporting a lowly £224.43 increase in savings for January. Hopefully February will be slightly better, however I am off to Las Vegas tomorrow so there will be plenty of spending going on.

I get a £6000 bonus in April so that will put me over half way towards my target.

It's amazing to see how much everyone is saving.

I've just come across this thread, is it too late to join?

I wouldn't have been able to put anything away in January anyway - but I start my new job on Feb 3rd. Once I start getting paid again I can start saving again. :D

I think I'm going to set myself a goal of £6000 - an average of £500 a month (I'll have to make January up...) for my personal savings.

My hubby and I also put the same amount of money aside each month (£200 each after covering bills) into a joint account to save up for home improvements/holidays/etc. but I'm not going to include that.

My goal = £6000 personal savings between now and Dec 31st. :D

  • Final total for January and I'm declaring £1,045.

I always find Jan a tough month after Christmas so very pleased with that! My bad news is that I am going to need to replace my car this year (my current little banger is on it's last legs and has no chance to pass MOT in July :() so that's going to wipe out at least 1 whole month's savings. Which means my target is going to be pretty tough! I will have to aim to put a bit extra away on top of my £1k per month target so I can make it up a bit.

    Bring on the challenge!:D
