Yesterday we became debt free. Today I want to start saving. Our plan will be to save £1K a month initially so this looks like the challenge to get us there. Is it possible to join so late in the year - with an aim of £3K for 2014? :)
Congratulations on becoming debt free! :j :j and of course you can join - better late than never ;) your challenger number is #213 :)

  • Number 024, updated spreadsheet for October.

    I managed £4000 this month.

    Total of £7000
    Save 12k in 2014: £7000/£8000 - Number 024

    House deposit savings: £7000/£25000
  • No post for two months but I will explain! on the 27th August we completed on our new house so it has been absolutely a very hectic of couple of months and I've finally got round to posting an update.

After selling the previous house, we moved into my other house (Worked perfectly as tenants were moving out) This enabled us to save a considerable amount towards the deposit for the new house. We ended up agreeing putting down a deposit of £37,000 and taking a mortgage for £205k - A bit more than I wanted to take but within budget and it gives us chance to overpay from the start.

Once the deposit was paid and all Solicitors fees etc we were left with £6,500 in savings and a separate £3,000 as a car fund (I have a regular saver which has £2,250 in which will add to the car fund) We are overpaying £102 straight away each month and I am hoping we can pay an additional mortgage payment each year so we pay the mortgage off sooner.

We have paid for new sofas (arrive tomorrow!) A new TV, new table & chairs and that is all covered by money set aside so will not have any impact on our savings. We will be replacing the Kitchen in the new year so all savings between now and then will be going into that fund.

Happy that we have hit the 12k and hopefully between now and Christmas we should be able to save even more.

Only £224 for me this month but I dont mind too much as it was a month of celebration and goodbyes- My DS passed his 11+ and my sister left for Oz again indefinately. We had a party for her at my home and I went all out, lots of homemade decorations and food and a money gift for her. My DS had a meal out as a reward for passing, it was quite low key as his incentive for passing it a trip for just him and I to Florida. :D So I put a chunk of money away for that so its not counted. I dont know whos more excited- him or me!! :D

A very measly £50 from me this month - most of my usual savings went on spending money for my holiday in the middle of the month, plus we've had a couple of household expenses (the bathroom roof has needed repair work since we moved in here 2 1/2 years ago!). I think I'll still be playing catch up a little during November but should be able to do better than this month.

Nice to see all the newbies joining in, hi everyone! :)
