    Declared for October- £2050 stashed!

My best month so far. I've smashed my original target of £7500, so have increased it to £9095 so I can have a total of £15,000 in savings by the end of the year. I didn't expect to do as well this month but have been really focused. I'm going to do my best to max savings in November too, although we are having 4 nights away in Belgium towards the end of the month so won't be as high.

Added bonus for the month- Vodafone have been overcharging me, so bill is now £77 in credit so no DD for the next 5 months. Double check all your bills that go out by DD folks!
  • May I join this challenge too?

Little bit about me : finally out of debt last month after 14 years in the red. (Damn credit cards and easy credit). I've saved £500 last month after a bit of an unnecessary splash on new stuff for a new job a couple weeks ago. Looking to "Knuckle down" and save first for a rainy day fund, a house deposit and finally to invest for retirement.

Looking to save £3500 this year
  • Up to £4,800 :) target was £3,000 so very happy!

May I join? I have £10 but am expecting a bit of money when my benefits come through, which I will put in an ISA.

An ISA is unlikely to be the best place for your money, especially if you're not a taxpayer anyway. The best place, if you can get it, is a TSB Classic Plus current account, which pays 5%AER on up to £2000, provided you sign up for internet banking, paperless statements and paperless correspondence, and pay at least £500 a month into the account. If this last sounds difficult, remember you can take money out and pay it in again as many times as is necessary to add up to £500.

It's been a difficult few months, my DM being taken very ill and sadly passing away four weeks later at the end of July. Sorting out her home was horrible, DB and I had no heart to do it but managed it eventually, sold much of the contents, and donated to RBL. Not the way to reach my goal but I was fortunate (depending on how you look at it) to inherit an amount which means I have surpassed my savings goal. It has already been invested wisely so I'll fill in the spreadsheet, then back out for the rest of the challenge but look forward to starting again with the next one. Thanks for all the support and good luck everyone in reaching your goal :).

She will get to you, don't worry. Slowlyfading is another member like us who generously volunteers to keep track of the challenge for us so she won't visit the thread daily. As it's nearing month end she will be updating again soon :)
