Hi Sparrer, so sorry to hear what you've experienced this year. My dad passed away in 2004 and my mum in 2008, so I understand what it's been like for you.

My savings amount this month is £1830, making a total of £17105 for the year so far.

I now need to save £895 next month to meet my target for the year.

    I'm very happy with this

I've sent an update via the spreadsheet

  • Hi All,

I have been a long time admirer of this thread, well done to all those working hard to build up their savings. Also to SlowlyFading for doing a great job starting up the challenge and running the spreadsheets, very impressive!

Although an active reader of this thread, i have not yet asked to join as i have been busy on the mortgage free wannabe challenge. My partner & I started this back in January 2011 and have now all but completed it (purposefully keeping a small balance oustanding). My MFW diary is here:

There's quite a bit about us and our plans in that dairy.

We are getting married late next year and have already saved for that. So our next step on our long term plan is to build up substaintial savings to allow us to buy our forever house. The aim is to get to the forever house in as few steps as possible, so ideally this is the next house we buy.

We plan to save 7.5k this year. I have already saved £2525 in October. Would i be able to join this challenge and post this as my 1st contribution?

The long term goal is to save in total £45k by end of March 2016 but smaller milestones are a much better way to save, so 7.5k for 2014 is the immediate plan.

Look forward to joining you, good luck to all.

    Thanks
    Mc_Marty

Yesterday we became debt free. Today I want to start saving. Our plan will be to save £1K a month initially so this looks like the challenge to get us there. Is it possible to join so late in the year - with an aim of £3K for 2014? :)

Sparrer I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. Hugs.

Mc_Marty welcome to the thread, and a serious well done for all you have achieved so far :)

mizmir wecome also, and congratulations on becoming debt free! :D

#077 'popping' on to declare a staggering (for me ;)) £326.25 for October!! Takes my total up to £1,656.91. 2 paydays in 2014 left!
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000
  • Good afternoon savers,

Have added £500 for October. What can I say? Too many trips abroad and extensive dental work! Have had to change my target to £10,000 as I am unlikely to meet my initial target of £12,000. Better luck next year :D:D:D!

    Keep saving,

I have today transferred October's £1K into savings - and have set up a standing order to do it each month. From now on savings will be taken out before everything else happens - rather than being the scrapings I can muster at the end...

So, with the £10k we have left over from the sale of the house, our total is £11K. Aim is £13K by the end of 2014.
