Oof the thread's gone very quiet! How is everyone doing? :)

Still here, but I'm struggling with the work/life balance being all work and no life :(

On the plus side it means there's little time to spend and plenty to save, a few pennies past £2500 stashed away so far this month - need about £60 to get past the £15k mark although it might be a rummage down the back of the sofa too far for this month :D

As the decorator in the previous thread didn't turn up despite re-scheduling no less than four times, he has been given the heave-ho and I will look for someone more reliable to do it in September/October. Therefore things will be less tight this month. Unless a miracle happens I doubt I will make my target by the end of the year as work has been slow and my income therefore lower than normal. I will make a concerted effort to use my money wisely as it's so easy to give in and feel defeated. Payday on Monday I think!

An unexpected bonus of my new contract is that I've been paid in a different way meaning that I can put more money away this month. As of now it's pushed my savings up to £11,360. Which is so close to my goal that I can practically taste it.

I've been thinking the same thing, doesn't seem to be just this board though, most of the boards I follow are unusually quiet, guess everyone else must be on jolly hol's or just enjoying the sunshine (between storms!).

I'm set for a good month in July, hopefully... I unexpectedly had some money paid back from a family member which I hadn't really expected to ever see again, a pleasant surprise though.

On the downside, my OH has been off work due to illness for the last 6 weeks and found out, by chance, that his wages went down to half pay 2 weeks ago. Fortunately (?) his illness means he's not doing much and ergo not spending much so it shouldn't effect him/us much. He's got a consultant appointment 1st August so hopefully they'll get him straightened out then if he's not better beforehand. Absolutely furious with his employers though, out of courtesy they could have contacted him to let him know it was about to happen, if he hadn't been on the phone to them (because he agreed to try do some work remotely to help them out!!) he probably wouldn't have found out til pay day. Just imagine if meeting our mortgage repayments had been dependant on his income!!!

Twiggy - I hope your OH is better soon and it's frustrating that you had no contact about the pay.

  • Just £500 this month. I'm putting another £800 in my household pot as I need my house redecorated this summer.

I also intend to buy some lovely kitchen tiles that are on offer as part of my "Refurbish my kitchen by stealth" project. I can't justify an entire new kitchen as the cabinets are fine, and any new ones would be in the same places. So "just" new appliances, worktops, tiles, handles and sink saves quite a bit. It has also encouraged me to sort out those cupboards and give them a good scrub down before the new handles go on. I have found tins going back Best Before 2004! And as I'm trying to save money, I used them! (not dead yet).

And on a really positive note, my mortgage has now dropped to the hundreds, not (tens of) thousands! What a milestone! My interest this month is 96 PENCE!! Only a few years back it was £300 before overpayment and the interest rate plummet. I'm really chuffed, it's been a long haul.

That's brilliant :T Mine is £321 interest only per month  Working hard to get that down though.

I am also waiting for payday this month. Not that I will have a lot to declare anyway
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.

    Also slowly waiting for payday!!!

I am starting a new job at the end of august and having a month off beforehand so the next couple of months will be very sparse savings wise until I get my new salary but still plugging away on ebay and doing little things to save at least something!
