I'm not quite sure how I've managed it but June's savings are £844.85.

    Morning all

I'm calling £1000 in savings for June, been a tough one, but pleased with the result! July will be very tight as I've not earnt any commission in my job, so more Ebaying calls!

    Good luck for July everyone.

Easyjet Roulette... is this a real thing or something you've devised yourself? Just wondering as a friend & I are planning a holiday in October and are quite happy to have a random suggestion (or two...) which falls within our price range, but couldn't find any tools to help us with this!

Haha... It's just something we came up with a few years back and christened it Easyjet Roulette... :D

We basically challenge ourselves to find the cheapest flights (mainly using budget airlines and price comparison sites) for example, if you put your travel dates in on Ryanair's website it comes up with the cheapest flights to several destinations and we pick a destination based on what we fancy at the craziest price!
It works for us... Especially as we're stuck to school holidays with OH being a teacher. If you're more flexible with dates it can work out even cheaper again!
We compared this to booking a few nights away in the UK and it almost always works out cheaper and far more exciting!!

    Hope that helps!!

Ha ha, yes that's a brilliant idea. Might check that out and see what we can come up with soon! Thanks for explaining :T

I wasn't going to post my update till Monday as that's pay day, but think it's safe to do so already!

I'll complete the update form in a moment but please can I increase my target to £2,500 and declare £250 for June?

I have saved more than this but the rest will be going into my 'rainy day' fund so will hopefully cover any holiday plans and/or unexpected bills as the year progresses.

    Thanks :)

So June was a bit of a tricky month for me... Needed new glasses (that was £170 gone straight away!), bought part of hubby's birthday present, fathers day, a couple of family birthdays, extra petrol visiting said family members... A good month in terms of what I've been up to, but a bad month in terms of finances, so I've only put £100 in to my ISA this month.

It was also my own birthday a couple days ago, so I have got a little money from that (currently in note form rather than in the bank so it's not included in anything yet). Trying to decide if I spend it on me, or add it to the savings. We are going on holiday at the beginning of August, so I might add it to the spending money. :P

I did also get some good news though. I'm getting a £1000 bonus in my July pay packet. Always a good letter to receive. So July I should be able to put a bit more away to make up for a bad June.

  • Argrr. Feeling so disheartened.

Our savings numbers have got a little messed up, DH's monthly direct debit to his ISA stopped two months ago when he moved his ISA and we only just noticed. So I have been counting an extra £400 into our savings for the past two months that wasn't really there!

Rather than faffing around changing previous months totals this month I am declaring less for this month to bring the totals in line with one another.

This revelation was actually a bit gutting, I thought we were doing much better saving than we are and had worked out that at the rate I thought we were saving we would have a house deposit in twelve months. Looks like it won't be for 20 months now, in the meantime there has been a £7k increase in house prices in our area just in the past thee months. This is starting to feel like a hopeless cause.

Anyways, #132 declaring £500 for June.

Have put the numbers into the sheet SF.

Although I haven't added to this thread it is one I read most often.

I'm a little weird in my approach to savings each month. I get paid the last working day of the month...and that's when I add to my savings account...and then try and then stay within my means of the allocated funds until next pay day.

That's pretty much what I do too as I also get paid on the last working day of each month. However I have a couple of savings accounts as well as my ISA so,every pay day, I set aside an overoptimistic amount, popping it into my flexisaver account and hoping I will be good and not need to touch it. However, I usually have to trickle anything up to £200 back into my current account before the next pay day. I find that not having it sat there in my current account means I think more about how I spend my money as it's not so easily accessible. Once I reach the next pay day, whatever is left in the flexisaver gets moved over to my ISA.
