Eeeeeek! I usually only really post on payday but I had to pass on the news that we had an offer accepted on a property on Monday!!!! The last 5 years of saving will shortly becoming to fruition as we purchase the Mintedmatty family home.

In all honesty we never ever pictured ourselves looking at the size/type of house never mind actually buying one but 5-6 years of hard saving, sensible planning & cutting out the Costa Coffees etc etc will hopefully pay off over the next couple of months. Wev'e had a bid accepted at £242,000 and it was on the market at £275,000 so pretty happy with that but when I see the numbers I take a big GULP.

The mortgage is well within affordability and I wanted to balance out the advice given by friends and family between 'You don't want to stretch yourselves' and 'This is the family home where you will be for the next 20-25 years, it is worth stretching yourselves that little bit for the right house' I feel we have found the ideal place in a lovely part of West Yorkshire in the village where we got married 2 years and the village where my mum grew up.

Obviously it hasn't completed yet and things could still go belly up, but fingers crossed! We will be continuing to save and still very much on target for the £12k but I really want to hammer the new mortgage down and become mortgage free ASAP!

I'm at £4500, I think. I don't actually know properly as I can't remember my logins. So I'll update with the accurate figure sometime this week when the post comes.

Also I may have to withdraw completely as I may have no job from July which isn't great.

Sorry about that.:( I hope you are able to keep your job or something else opens up for you.xx

I was made permanent! So I'm on track to hit my goal and I don't have to worry anymore. Well - no more than anyone has to these days.

I did take a slight pay cut but I can make that up relatively easily over the year with overtime etc.

I have to claim some overpaid tax back so I'm not sure whether I should declare that now or when it comes in, but if now I can put my end of May total up to £7500.

Yay. £750 put in to my ISA for May.

My savings now stand at £3,325.37 which means I'm a little ahead of being on track for £6000 by the end of the year. Summer is a tricky time though, several family birthdays and my wedding anniversary, so money wise I'll be spending out a little more...

Thanks for this thread everyone (especially SF), without it I'd probably of not saved this much in 5 months.
