In all honesty we never ever pictured ourselves looking at the size/type of house never mind actually buying one but 5-6 years of hard saving, sensible planning & cutting out the Costa Coffees etc etc will hopefully pay off over the next couple of months. Wev'e had a bid accepted at £242,000 and it was on the market at £275,000 so pretty happy with that but when I see the numbers I take a big GULP.
The mortgage is well within affordability and I wanted to balance out the advice given by friends and family between 'You don't want to stretch yourselves' and 'This is the family home where you will be for the next 20-25 years, it is worth stretching yourselves that little bit for the right house' I feel we have found the ideal place in a lovely part of West Yorkshire in the village where we got married 2 years and the village where my mum grew up.
Congrats!:)Homeownertobe wrote: »I was made permanent! So I'm on track to hit my goal and I don't have to worry anymore. Well - no more than anyone has to these days.

Morning all
I wasn't able to save anything in April so it feels good that I can update my savings for May:).
Number 41 - £468 saved in May = £2311/£10000 (23%)0 -
Only reporting £350 for April AND May
However, DFD is pencilled in for 2 weeks time so June's update should be markedly better

I'm all excited about this month's looming payday... My current total stands at £971, just £529 short of my 2014 target of £1500. I put aside an optimistic £500 for May but have had a few splurges this month which, combined with the bank hol weekend, means I'm more likely to be submitting a total of £400 instead. Without wanting to wish away time, I'm looking forward to June's savings which means I should be able to confidently increase my target to maybe £2500... I'm waiting to see if it remains viable though as we've got a few more big expenses coming up with our rental property.
The last 10 months or so has really taught me the value of having savings; lots of unexpected maintenance costs at the rental property (rising to the value of approximately £2.5k) knocked a hole in my 2013 savings. Thankfully though I persuaded my sister to not touch the rental income for a few months at the beginning of this year, which will cover the remaining bills which are due to come in soon (another scaffolding elevation and more labourer costs) so my savings counted in this group shouldn't have to be touched. We had started out with great intentions by setting aside a small sum of money every month to build up a maintenance fund, but we'd let the property for less than 6m before the costs started rolling in so it hadn't accumulated to anything much. We're no longer able to not touch the rental income due to unemployment on my sisters side, but we've increased our monthly contributions to the maintenance pot and <touches wood> some of the worst of the expenses we might have expected at the house will have been done and paid for soon, so it should get a chance to build up properly this time. I should add that the property we acquired was through inheritance, hence not having a budget already set aside as we might have done if we'd intentionally set out to become landlords!£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Hi lovelies... Reporting for duty in May...!
Managed to tuck £300 into the regular saver and the usual £300 into my long-term savings plan...
Also set up a £50 per month payment into my employer's credit union direct from my salary (I can't put more than £300 into my long-term plans because of HMRC rules.)
OH doesn't know about this cheeky little number, and we won't miss the £50 as it is covered by my annual increment - so my plan is to let this build up in the background and then treat ourselves to a nice surprise holiday or better still leave it for a couple of years and pop it into savings!! Every little helps!
I've also opened a new TSB Plus account (nothing in it yet!) in which I intend to build a £2000 emergency fund and leave it sitting there earning a nice little 5% interest.
Building up a plan I'm happy with now as my savings start to build little by little - starting to feel more financially confident and optimistic about the future!!
Other than that, I've put £400 away for a weekend break to Frankfurt for the Ironman Triathalon, but this will be spent in July, so I'm not counting this towards my total (as it's "planned expenditure").
Sorry for the waffle! :rotfl:
In summary, only actually managed £600 in May.
Summer is always more expensive for us, so need to get some more overtime under my belt to avoid falling further behind my target!
Well done to everyone on the savings so far - keep it coming!! Will be worth it when it comes to New Year totting up the figures!!:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -
781.50 - so feeling good about that. Yes i am falling behind but i did go on a stag do as well. I might beginning to apply for jobs in the region i was brought up and might move back in with my folks as my dad isn't to well... obviously i will contribute to the household expenses but my monthly expenses should drop by £800 if i do that which is a game changer!
I get rent from my tenant in first week of July (pays quarterly) so i expect similar numbers this month for my savings... and then hopefully a good bump! A little behind my total expectations but on the whole not doing to bad...My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.
48.78% towards 2015 target.
105.3% towards 2014 target. :j0 -
Morning all
Well done everyone on reaching the £500k mark!
I'm calling £950 for May, it's been a bit of a struggle, as I cut up my credit card that I had been relying on a lot. It's been a very frugal month, as hubby and I have been paying for my daughter's Uni accommodation, the last payment of £1488 has gone out, so we should have extra money next month!
My job is currently hanging in the balance as things have gotten untenable, but I'm hoping for some resolution to that in the next couple of weeks.
Good luck for June everyone!

May has been a bit of a washout for me, decided to allow myself a bit of breathing space as its been a tough few months and bought a petrol strimmer to sort out the allotment,(£85) had a night out with a skint friend so paid for us both(£70) had a few BBQs with a fair bit of alcohol so spend a mini fortune on that and tomorrow im probably paying out £70 in petrol to visit my dad. I still have the solicitor to pay for...
I haven't dipped into my savings at all but the CC is maxed out. I need to knuckle down and get back on track pronto!£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
