they cancelled the sale as one of the chaps wanted it for himself
Do you have proof of this?0 -

Have you thought about going to the press?
I took a photo of the item half unscrewed from the display, and took the name of a lady staff member who was being very helpful. I didn't get the other individuals name unfortunately. I kept my cool in the grand scheme of things but I said that it was not fair and that they had agreed to sell it to me and that I wanted it. Another staff member mumbled something about not being able to sell display items. I said that it was disgusting and explained that I would be writing a letter...0 -

If the 'nice' lady in the store wants to come forward then yes I do...
I didn't expect it, if I had, then I'd have possibly got my phone out and filmed it0 -
Hmm, I'm not sure that MCOL will be of any use to you...
The only measurable loss you have is the £100 discount... But the fact that was for ex display may mean that it's not *really* loss of a bargain if you're comparing to brand new prices.
Also, by accepting the refund, it may be that the contract has been fulfilled, in that it has now been cancelled and both parties have agreed to the cancellation, there is therefore no real loss of bargain (potentially)
Surely they didn't give that reason for the refund? What did they tell you in store? It seems that this will all be difficult to prove...0 -
Oops, just read that you'd already come to that realisation!0

I bought an build oven from them after taking the money and gave me a delivery date after nearly one month on the 9th December 2014 they did not come or phone after taking one day off work to wait for them... after many calls and a visit to their Ruislip branch they promise to deliver it this week. Then they told me I did not pay yet... went to my bank and the bank confirmed they took the money a month ago!!! Then they send me an e-mail that they are pleased to inform me that my oven is ready for delivery now.... I contacted them to know when they told me to call the manufacture.... When I contacted the manufacture (New World Ovens) they told me that Currys placed the order with them only yesterday despite I waited for a whole month, and they cannot deliver it until another month in January... I tried to contact Currys Customer Service I only was faced with rude staffs who would not let me even to talk to a supervisor or a manager... Its a rubbish company and I regret buying anything from them I was a fool to go to them rather than John Lewis who had the same oven with the same price. Please dont use them if you want a peace of mind they are rubbish in customer service or in delivery!!!!0

The attitude of CurrysPCWorld doesn't surprise me.
I purchased a laptop for my son to use at college and it rapidly became obvious that there was an issue with the keyboard that was confirmed when a key popped-off.
The staff in CurrysPCWorld in Tollgate, Stanway informed me that there was nothing wrong and it must have been my son's heavy-handed use. Having snapped the key back in place, the staff member then began typing away with the comment of 'there, see, nothing wrong'. Just as he finished saying that, another key flew off.
At this point they decided there was something wrong and replaced the laptop.
Fast-forward 4 weeks and one of the parts of the cooling grill broke, so took it back. This time the store manager got involved and informed us that it was 'wear and tear and was not covered'.
3 weeks later, we went to Freeport and discovered that Toshiba (the laptop's maker) had an outlet store. Went in, explained the issue and they told us it was covered by warranty and gave us to number for the repair centre.Never Knowingly Understood.

In there defense, they get it right sometimes with things...
I orderd a telly from then in June 2012 (online), delivered for £1200...
On the day it was delivered, I noticed online they ran a promotion knocking off another £50.
So I went to my local store, asked if they could give me £50 cashback, which I was told No as expected...
I asked them if they could call there customer services for me in branch to ask same question........
Store staff call, speak to 'C Services', they advise nothing they can do....
Fair enough, so I then say to the lady on the phone (with the store member listening), I said i'll return the TV straight away, as its still boxed, obtain my refund, and re-order the same TV for £50 less...
By doing this, I save myself £50, and you as a business have a high cost in Logistics for new delivery, etc etc etc....
£50 refund hit my bank 2 days later...
So sometimes, they can be a useful company, but only when they use common sense to see a cost for them!0 -
Against my better judgement, I bought 2 Samsung Tablets from Currys at Littlehampton in July 2014, 1st time I have bought from Currys for yrs as I know how extremely poor they can be. I paid by cc in full and also for insurance. Subsequently without my knowledge they took two amounts of £46.55 for the next 5mths totalling £465.50. I contacted them on 12/12/14 and it has taken them up to 29th to get my money back and that's only when I got extremely angry with them and writing to Sebastian James [Chief Executive] obviously he dosent give a dam as he gets his underlings to cover for him and deal with any complaints, probably because they have an exhaustive amount. Their staff are only interested in blaming their customer for not checking the bank statement and all they want to do is justify all their actions. They should have taken my bank details and reimbursed me immediately and paid compensation for loading up my credit card. Please spread the word about this crummy company and the Dixons group, their appalling lack of customer care. I will cheer when they go bust.0

Just to get this straight.
For 5 months you never noticed £46.55 being taken out of your credit card.
You contacted them on the 12th of December when you noticed and 17 days later got a full refund?
It isn't a case of just refunding it. The call centre logs the information for investigation, it's transferred to other departments for investigation and communication with 3rd parties such as the bank, and when it's finally done the refund is issued which can take a few days anyway depending on who your bank is, and then it can take a few days for it to reappear on your credit card account.
During the busiest time of the year for a retailer, 17 days all said and done is not brilliant, but it's not bad either.
And yea, you should have checked your bank statement, if not for things like this, but for fraud and accountability.0
