We went on one of these free holidays a few years ago. One of the Terms and Conditions of the free holiday then was that if you didn't go on it, you had to pay the full cost of it.
I don't know whether this offer has a similar condition attached, however, I thought that this was a good idea as it deterred people from becoming greedy and applying for holidays that they maybe didn't know whether they could use or from selling them (as they wouldn't be sure that they could sell them).
Pontins supply these holidays to fill empty chalets. The objective is to give people who genuinely want a holiday there to experience it free of charge not for greedy people to profit from it.
I do think the T&C relating to payment if you don't holiday is a good one, as then the holidays go to the people who know they can go to a certain place, on a certain date. It stops people just applying because it's free.

Yep I agree. It costs next to nothing for Pontins to let out their chalets, just think how much income they will get in their bars and shops from people who wouldn't ordinarily have went.

It would be interesting to see how much was spent by the free holidaymakers (I am not suggesting that you post that information btw)

I thought the core of this site was socialist values ie turning the tables on the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer society which we all live in at the moment, but i am obviously wrong if i am to beleive the posts which have appeared in this thread alone!! Regarding Pontins supplying these freebies to fill empty chalets.....yes and to fill their coropate pockets full of the money you'll spend on their sites while you're there!! Do you really beleive that these chalets would be fully occupied if they hadnt offered these hilidays for free?? Better to give away and reapt profit on site than to lie empty with nobody spending! As for having to pay for the holiday if your unable to go, yeah why not, after all we're all on here to "rob from the poor and give to the rich" after all!!!

Smallminded, capatalist attitudes like this belong in the boardrooms of the corporate giants that this forum is aimed at challenging not on a thread designed to give all an equal opportunity to have a well earned break from the struggle and worry of everyday life!! :naughty:

I took a look at this Ebay sellers previous auctions and she seems to have a good line in selling used/dirty underwear and socks.

Really confused as to why ppl are buying 2nd hand socks fr £3.99 when you can get a pack of 3 for about that in places like Primark.

Anyway back to Pontins, has anyone been to Southport yet?

Thailand, how fab of Pontins to do that for you. Where is your friend now?

hi we got back from Southport last night and we had a great time! The budget chalet was fine, again the floor was a bit rotten but that was all, fully stocked kitchen, eve ntho we didn't really use it as the prices in the Queen Vic were very reasonable. Breakfast from £2.95 (2 sausage, bacon, beans or tomatoes, fried egg or scrambled and fried bread) to £5.95 for a breakfast with everything inc drink. They also did an offer after breakfast for a 1/4 pounder burger with chips and salad and a pint of something or a bottle of VK for £3.99! The Queen Vic was also very clean, we were a bit iffy about going here as I had read a review that it was manky, but it wasn't.

The entertainment was brilliant, started with bingo at 7pm then the kids entertainment till 9pm then the cabaret (we left soon after as I had my 3month old daughter with me and she is in routine!)

You have to pay for electric which is a £1 a card, except we didn't have to because it was on in our chalet the whole time without putting any in so just got a refund for our cards at the end. There is a tv in the chalet too.

Everything is pretty close, there are lots of activities for the kids in the day, when the weather is bad they just do it all inside.

Southport itself is also good, we parket on the park and ride which is £1 per car for all day! you will easily find it there is a bit wind turbine on it! Also Pleasureland is reopening mid july and there is a new Splashworld which opened last week. The shopping is great and there is Ocean Plaza which is a new retail park with restaraunts and shops.

I have 2 books of vouchers for anyone that is going, they are for Southport town and are what you would get if you went on a coach trip.they are mostly food offers, free drinks etc. they include Debenhams, Kfc, Mcd's and lots more. PM me and I will send them. Also when you check in you get a welcome pack with lots of vouchers for the camp which are good if you have kids.

All in all we had a really good time, we came back the night before we should have checked out only because the weather went rubbish and the baby was getting niggly.

Oh yeah also I am with O2 and I could only get a signal when I stood in the bath or went by the swimming baths!

Where did I say that genuine peoply didn't deserve a well earned break, I didn't. So please judge people on what they have stated, not what they have not.

I am a true socialist, that is why I believe that it is wrong that people should profit from selling these holidays on. They have applied for something that they didn't really want or need, when the holiday could have gone to someone who genuinely needed it.

In my opinion this is capitalistic greed, but if you think that it is o.k. to deprive a genuine applicant in order for others to make money then I think that you need to look to your own values as to who is the capitalist, or do you only think capitalistic values only refer to large corporations?
