:j That is awesome SarahB1989 - congrats :j
I have clocked up 4 NSD in a row this week, I'm dead chuffed "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
hello,
not been round these parts much recently.
not been hugely frugal but not gone mad, money is working out.
Just a quick question
Is six pieces of chicken too much between two people?
xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -

It depends on what cut of chicken you are talking about but I would say yes unless of course it is KFC (Nom nom)"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Back to work today after nearly two weeks, a shock to the system, I can tell you!
A new month has started as Mr GG's salary and my pension have gone in to the bank account
From a quick review, I've worked out that this month we've spent 90% of our 'post retirement; general spending budget. This includes my fairly expensive trip to the hairdressers, buying a slow cooker, and our day out in London, including Oyster Auto top up, which happened on both our cards. So it does indicate we can afford a bit of life when we stop working. Mr GG's car service yesterday isn't included in this, as that's an 'out of budget' event. But the 'free'month on Council Tax will go quite a long way to paying this. Also not included - the balance of the weekend away we are having in April. This came out of savings,
I'll work out the grocery spending in a few days, but that's looking hopeful.
We are both pleased with the way we are managing on spending less - so I've made it official in my sig now.....hopeful retirement next spring, brought forward from SeptemberEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -

Evening all - NSD for me today, but a nasty shock this evening as water was dripping through the kitchen ceiling :eek:
OH took a panel out of the ceiling (I should explain that the kitchen is an extension and the ceiling is like panelling) and he thinks that the roof is leakingand in fairness, it was peeing down with rain at the time. I had originally thought it might be one of the pipes that goes above the ceiling to the boiler. Not sure which would be worse???
So, OH will have to call the roofer tomorrow. We had the main roof done last summer, but not the little extension one. It won't be cheap
So, we definitely need to be extra frugal for a while0 -
Oh Dawn talk about it never rains but it pours! At least you'll have everything done by the time you retire.
Well, this week I've mostly been working, apart from a trip to the local aldi and i spent over £40!! Had a bit of a stock up of the shelves:)
Giving the family an april challenge to live on my wages and the shelves for a month.
I am evil...this time of year i work paid about 4 hours a week (in the summer its nearer 30 hours so it averages out well) We should end up with around £20 a week if I'm lucky!! I want them to engage with their food a little more and to think about the cost of their chocolate and ice cream and junk.
I know I have enough food here for 3 months with just the addition of fresh milk (I have deep pantry that has taken me 7 years to build up) so its sourdough bread next monthand lots more homebaking! And I've been trying out alot of ww2 recipes and they've gone down really well:D
Am I mean???
Never mind, hope everyone isn't too chilly, no central heating here but still lighting the fire in the evening as OH complains otherwise!!

According to BBC food
Used in Middle Eastern, North African and Eastern European cookery, bulgur wheat is added to soups, rissoles, stuffed vegetables, and salads such as tabbouleh. The medium grade requires less soaking and cooking, so it's ideal for salads and Lebanese kibbeh. The coarse grade can be cooked for a long time without becoming soggy, so add it to casseroles, or steam or boil and serve as an accompaniment to spicy stews. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Hi, Shortie you did make me laugh. I didn't get blown away, but the washing had only been out about half an hour when the rains came, so another trek out to collect it, and then it was draped like damp bunting all round the house!
Dawn what a bummer about the roof, hope it isn't too dear.
Off to walk in fancy socks for sports aid at DGS' school later this morning, should be a mile, but.............0
