Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
nsd/npd and a nice bank statement which surprised me as I'd forgotten one of my dd's finished last month :)
  • Hi everyone. Had an interesting day. DH had a free eye test. Took both babies to my group so cost £1. Got a gorgeous wee blue duffle coat for DS2 in a designer shop. Fell in love with it yesterday but at £20 couldn't justify it as we have so many clothes from DS1. However, thought about it overnight and realised DS2 had Christmas money, no thick coat in that size and I did actually love it. So...shop still had it and it's now in his wee wardrobe and I keep looking at it lovingly! Went to Costa with the two babies & DH. Used DH's points card so a chai, cappuccino & 2 brownies cost £1.85 :) DH not impressed I spent his points ha ha :) Got DS1's feet measured & needed bigger size. Got gorgeous boots for him in the sale. £19 from £30. Happy Mummy. Then went to M & S. Mini splurge for DH's dinner but kept him happy :)
  • Hope all is well with everybody. Been reading but not posting for a few days. Spent £91 on two car tyres, £30 on small but essential job on car. MOT is next Wednesday and car tax £69 (for 6 months) is due end of march. It will clear of what little savings I have. Nothing I can do about it. I wish I could afford a newer car and benefit from better fuel economy, lower tax and less to pay on MOT day :( A friend of mine boasted a few weeks ago that her MOT cost her £19.99- the cost of the MOT!

  • hi, have been reading but not posting, keeping on frugaling, tho, and have made some 'interesting' meals from the freezer and store cupboard, to keep spends to a bare minimum, I haven't even bought my 20p paper this week, so that's £1 saved. It is my greatnephews birthday next Friday, and his mum has 'asked' (ie left word with my sil to tell me to get) for a 'Lego Fire Station' I think about £30 so she is gonna be disappointed, as £10 is my max.
Today I need to spend, tho, as I need some compost to make some spring hanging baskets home grown flowers and greenery, and will be gifts for my 3 lovely friends and darling SIL, so the cost of compost is well set off against the pleasure factor.
Another non uniform day at school, in aid of UNICEF, hope they raise plenty. Off to refill hottie bottle and make coffee xxx

    What did you get?

Scalpels. I use them for taking cuttings and opening packages etc, I have plenty of blades but keep forgetting where the handles are. So by getting 5 I can leave one in each location that I might need one.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • Brr its chilly! It's down to 14 degrees in here so time to light the fire before my feet freeze! Its ok while I'm working as it always feels warm when we come in! But when you sit still def feels cold!

I probably shouldn't be anywhere near the frugal thread, after what I did yesterday.

I've booked up for a cruise next year - it's a maiden voyage of a ship. I've never done a maiden voyage before, and it's something we've both always wanted to do.

I'm doing this challenge so can we do the things that we want to do, so we've just gone for it.

At least today was a NSD.

Next Wednesday, my car goes in for it's service. I've got a bad feeling about it as it's making a noise that it shouldn't I've had my car from new, 12 years ago, so it has done very well. If it can just be patched up to survive another year of so, that's all I need from it. But I'm bracing myself for expenditure, but not of the enjoyable kind

Worked at home today, so no commute :D

Also some shopping in A!di, and went to the local farmers merchants to get some compost as I want to start sowing seeds for the garden. I had intended to get just one small bag but they had an offer of 4 big ones for £10, and I know we will use it, so got the 4.

Bad news is I didn't sell much in my unit this month, and have to top up £35 of rent  This is the first time it has happened, though it hasn't done great for the last couple of months.... if it doesn't pick up by the time I finish work I shall give it up for a while and just do fairs for the summer.
  • Evening Frugalites xx

    Friday!!

God I've eaten well today, all from stores in cupboards and fridge! Humour me please whilst I go through my menu?!

Brekkie - smoothie made from frozen banana, blueberries and cherries, yoghurt, honey and some granola-y thing from Aldini. Topped up with splash of milk - lovely!

Dins - pasta with fresh tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, spring onions, olives, artichokes, sunflower and pumpkin seeds all coated in homemade pesto (made with walnuts!! Cheaper than pine nuts!) plus last piece of rocky road!

Tea - puy lentils cooked in stock with roasted carrots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, onions and garlic with a dollop of pesto and a good squeeze of lemon.

Now having a hot chocolate. Divine!

Hoping for a no spend weekend, am going to the pictures next week so want to budget for that. What's everyone up to?

Happy Valentines day, gang - hope this is an apt tune!
