This weather is appalling! The wind and rain is bad at the moment.
To get my mind off it, I'm thinking ahead to the (hopefully better )weather, and also my post retirement life
When we stop working, we want to make sure we get out and about a bit. We have done a few day trips on coaches and enjoyed them, so hope to continue with this, as long as it is covered by our 'post retirement' budget.
With this in mind, we are planning a few activities for this year and I've booked a coach trip today, for Warner Bros Harry Potter Tour. We've been wanting to do this since it opened. It's not until June, but it will be something to look forward too. Normally for a coach trip I'm the youngest by a good 10 years, but on this one there should be quite a few people younger than me!Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Went to the college this morning, very impressed with £5 for a wash, cut and blow-dry. Cleared out my bags, found a total of £7.20p. Plus 6 pens to join the other 30/40 in the ice cream tub so I won't need to buy any for ages

Got my friend's birthday gift sorted - found a book she'll love that was reduced in The Works from nearly £20 down to a fiver, and they've started a loyalty card scheme so will have a few pennies back later. Also got her some earrings from the Accessorize sale down to £2, and used some old Waterstones points for her card. Quite pleased with that!New graduate trying to get debt-free.
Make £5/day challenge: August £84.08/155
I owe £5400 (plus £34,000 Student Finance)

My car has cost a fortune this week, £287 for a new clutch and £79 in tyres. Its completely demotivated me and putting on 10lbs of the 30 I lost last month hasn't helped. I should be at my college course today but I just couldn't face it, life is getting on top of me again

Don't be too hard on yourself.
Yes, the car cost a lot but you now have a safe car
Yes, you put on 10lbs but you still lost 20lbs, that's an amazing amount.
If you can, recompose yourself and ......blame it on the weather! It has been a blustery week for you but next week is going to be better
Sending you many :grouphug:"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Wind = a pain in the rear......... fence panels down 3 (so far!!!).

Well, my retirement date has been confirmed as 30 April :D
I have been preparing/ being frugal and saving over the last few years for this :j
But it is a bit scary, not just the money (I don't have exact figures for my - reduced, as I am retiring early - pension, but it will not be much ) but suddently stopping a job that occupies almost every waking moment, and quite often prevents sleep at night, is also a strange thought. I think I will have the summer off, but am already thinking about looking for some part time work in the autumn. I will also be looking after baby GD for 1 day a week when her mum goes back to work
So, even more motivation to be frugal. On that topic, another NSD today, and we have just had half of the chilli that I made at the weekend for dinner
On the less frugal side, part of our fence was blown down and smashed this afternoon in the storm, so we will have to replace that
Still, this is trivial compared to those people who are having to cope with the floods

Huge congratulations on setting your retirement date:T. I wish you a long and enjoyable retirement.
Sorry to hear about your fence - there seem to be a few comments on here tonight that are similar. You guys down south certainly are getting the worst weather I can remember in a very long time. Here's hoping it all calms down soon.0 -
A frugal day here with another NSD. I haven't actually left the house today and with the snow and wind and rain it is lovely to be able to sit by the fire and read a book (which I got from the Library last night).0
