£30 spend today in A*di- couldn't believe how empty the shelves were, particularly the fresh stuff. It's not usually like that, maybe everyone is heading to discount shops post Christmas in an effort to save money. Picked up some reduced stuff: a large Christmas pudding for 39p and some smaller Chocolate and Salted caramel puddings for 49p and a big box of Danish Cookies for 69p. Have a family meal coming up so that's the dessert and tea and biscuits sorted!Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000

Took leftovers in for lunch today - spent out on usual expensive bus and train fairs grrrrrrrrrrrr to get up to uni. Need to chase up and see if I've qualified for the 'hard up student' bursary thingie. That should help with travel costs so fingers crossed!
Bought an Americano at lunch that wasn't that nice and then later a StarBigBucks monstrosity which was horribly sweet and sickly. Do I need really need to buy any more coffee from these guys before I just stop?? It's not nice, I don't enjoy it and it's stupidly expensive!! Enough!!
Buy a flask /insulated cup. Cheaper, greener and always made exactly as you like it.0 -
Good for you kb_soma, while I know some people need a credit card I gave up mine when I got in a financial mess some years ago and only keep a debit card now. Like you I leave it at home and use minimal cash, I allow myself a sensible amount of pocket money every week and if I want something I just have to save for it. I haven't missed living what I thought was the high life at all because today I don't own anybody anything

I use that technique while I pay down my credit card. I have withdrawn £40 on the Jan 2nd via cashback and will be using that for anything I need. My credit card has been untouched since last year. By only using cash I am very aware of what I have to spend that week or month. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Well yesterday didnt end up a nsd, dh came home from work and said we needed pet food so we had to buy a 15kg bag, and a couple of tins.
Made a sponge cake last night, and threw some white icing on top and sprinkles, was like being back in school and we had it with custard
yum!
No spendy plans for today, visiting a friend this morning & then dh has half day in work so will hand him the baby whilst i tidy up.
Ps this is not my usual waking time, doing a night feed, Yawn....
Great time to catch up on posts though.Still here..... but working on that!0 -
A good day for me. I have some unexpected money coming in which will pay about half of my car service - still a huge bill but this will be a great help.
Stopped in the shops to buy some lamb chops and got a pack marked down half price and 2kgs of chicken drumsticks also half price. So very happy with that.
Then went to another shop and they had the coffee pods for my new machine out on special so grabbed 4 boxes. Would have liked to have got more as I have never seen them so cheap but was struggling to carry everything
Might have to drop in tomorrow after work and grab some more. 0 -
I hate January.... I don't know why BUT maybe it always seems money orientated... with bills, the realisation that throughout last year, as the year has gone on you have slowly slipped back into not being as careful with your money as you should have been..
The tight money situation has really taken a strangle hold the last week.. and looks as though it will not leave go of its grip for a few weeks yet...
Going to be even worse next week, as I have a few pigs that are going on their last journey... Ok will have more pork and sausages that a supermarket will have on its shelves lol... and there will poss be more going the following week too..
the only other good thing coming out of this, at leased my pig food bill will go right down...lol..Work to live= not live to work0 -
