One Headlight

  • I carry a spare set of bulbs in the car (why wouldn't you when you can get kits from around £2-£3!) and yes, its also a requirement in France, so I just leave them in the boot.

Luckily I drive an older car where a headlight change is a job that takes less than 30 seconds, so I don't have to worry about bulb changes.

I do see a lot of modern cars with bulbs out and can only wonder how much hassle it is to change them!

Yup. If you've only got one headlight on, then you can't see the double yellow line you parked on, so you're not liable to any fine.

And it also proves that you are at least one "sandwich short of a picnic", which as we both know from another thread, allows you to patrk anywhere at any time:rotfl:

There isn't much excuse for it. Most cars these days have a warning light saying you have a bulb out (not that you should need that for a headlight).

My car even tells me which light it is!

To be fair, only certain cars have bulb warning lights on the dash, and the really annoying thing about these, is that they are one of the first things to malfunction - staying on all the time, despite no bulbs being out.
  • So who actually carries spare bulbs with them.. Because your head light could actually blow whilst driving? Very easy to check before a long journey but who here actually carries spares?

A car driving with one light, who's to say it didn't blow out 5minutes ago..

Btw I do carry spare bulbs, but wondered if anyone else does, because it could easily happen?

    I carry spare bulbs.

I think they have a good idea in France, where you have to carry spare bulbs by law. It makes it strange that they make some of the most difficult cars to change bulbs on though doesn't it?
  • Well it's really foggy this morning, and I can't believe how many vehicles don't have any lights on at all. I know I discussed in another post about people relying on automatic headlights that don't always switch on in fog, but when I set off this morning it was still dark enough for auto headlights to kick in. Even if it hadn't been, it was foggy enough that I turned my fog lights on anyway.

I can't understand how people don't notice how hard it is to see other cars without their lights on, and then realise that their car is just invisible.

Agree about the lights but sometimes you do get caught short and generally it's not easy enough to change a headlight bulb road side.

On the point of fog lights, they are overused and very few people use them correctly.

It is barely EVER foggy enough in the UK to use them away from the coasts. As a pointer, if you're using them and still feel safe to be driving above 20mph you shouldn't have them on. As for people who leave them on when a car is behind them.......don't get me started.

That's because you're looking at it from the point of view of someone who DOES pay attention to what's going on around them. These people barely have a clue that there are other cars on the road let alone that they might need to do something to make themselves more visible.

Unfortunately it's becoming more and more prevalent nowadays and the only way to guard against it is to be super aware of what is going on around you and treat every other vehicle on the road as if it and it’s driver are out to kill you.

Ditto to this. The fog was seriously heavy this morning in Birmingham. Could not believe the amount of cars with no lights on at all!
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

Old Ford KA ... defy anyone to change a headlight bulb in one of them without at least a nasty scratch ... done loads - whoever designed the headlights wants a severe kicking. Righteous buffoon take note.
