Hopefully not boarding and alighting this time! ;)

(not intending to have a pop at either side, just a mental image that came to mind and amused me)

Well, since we're now talking about a coach...

    "Tickets Please" (unless they're parking)
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

    So your'e suggesting i'm a liar now? ....
No, I'm suggesting that your story is more full of holes than the average badly maintained highway after a severe winter. :D

Can I point out that I didn't come on here asking for advice on how to avoid a penalty (or fine) for committing any offence. I merely made an observation of a driver inappropriately using his rear fog lights and sitting in the middle lane. :(

Whether I committed an infringement or not is totally irrelevant to the thread so your comments/questions/suggestions are totally un-warranted and un-necessary.

May I suggest that you are careful up there... some people can suffer dizziness while they are so high up. :D

    £2-3 inc a headlight bulb?

    yep: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AA-Essentials-Compact-Universal-Bulb/dp/B0046RDLPO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387067489&sr=8-1&keywords=h4+spare+bulb+kit

to be fair, if you bought them separate, you could do it cheaper than that anyway :)

The ones that make me laugh are the ones who think "it's only slightly foggy, so I will just use my sidelights". In every single case where this happens, you can see the whole car before you see the sidelights. Utterly useless..

Useless for who? Fog comes down near ground level, so dipped and main beam during fog can reduce forward visibility for the driver as the light reflects off the fog.

Main beam reflects off fog, but dipped shouldn't be too much of a problem. But many cars just using sidelights are no more visible than if they didn't have them on at all. And they certainly won't help the driver to see.

Depends on the severity of the fog, that's not to say the canditate the poster noted was correct, but in country lanes it can be severe to the extent that dipped beams reflect to reduce forward visibilty, that said I've only experienced that a handful of times over the years.

But dipped beams would still illuminate the white lines, and the kerb/verge. Sidelights wouldn't at all.

It would be extremely dangerous to use sidelights only in thick fog, as oncoming vehicles wouldn't see you at all.
