of course she cant - but she can hint cant she? rather than leave them to the tender mercies of RSPCA? I am sure if we all put our heads together and worked out a plan we could find a home for this poor cat, if need be.
  • I have been reading this thread with interest and think that it's wonderful that there are people out there who care as much as you do. These 'owners' clearly have a different view on cat welfare and from the sounds of it the cat needs someone to help it.

Just wanted to ask why you were thinking of testing for FIV and FLV? Even if the cat had it would it change how you helped it? I only ask because I have heard that the tests can often produce false positives so should be repeated after a few weeks but RSPCA etc will put cats down on the day they test positive without retesting. Many smaller rescues wont test for these diseases as it wouldn't alter how they cared for the cat. Cats can live for years with a good quality of life with these illnesses and may not need extra help/special care for a long while.

If the cat is ill or just elderly I would suggest ringing smaller rescues, there are ones out there (including where I volunteer) that prioritise the cats other rescues shy away from, the elderly, the feral and the sick.

Fingers crossed for this kitty that it all works out and she gets the living home she deserves.

a vet would need to know if the cat was FIV or FelV - that knowledge can affect its future treatment. my own vet wouldn't innoculate my FIV cat that I rescued. and the cat had daily tablets which helped him - I cant remember what they were called but they were a particular type of anti-biotic which can be taken longterm.

I also wasn't going to mention this yet - but there is a cat charity which tries to rehome Fiv etc cats. I was going to look up the details if the tests came back positive.

Hope nothing is seriously wrong with that kitty but it is important to try and find out and from there determine is she could go and live with other cats or would there be a risk of cross infection and she will be better as an only cat somewhere.

Because I really hope this kitty wihl live curled up on somebody's lap rather than curled up to some bricks or under a car as she does now.

The cat will not be left at RSPCA vets, no matter what her tests results will be - she DESERVES a bit of TLC

unfortunately my own cat is definitely an 'only cat' - he doesn't do well with other cats. and I live so far away!

I have had a 19 year old cat. She was much loved and very well looked after. She has problems with her teeth which had to be removed as well as kidney and pancreas issues. Towards the end she looked very much like this although she was black. Her fur was matted and in big clumps and no matter how much I brushed her it always looked awful. She loved being outdoors and I had to constantly carry her back indoors. She became very needy at the end wanting constant cuddles and strokes. The vet told me to keep a very watchful eye on her as it is very common for cats to wander off and find a quiet place to pass away. Unfortunately it never got to this point as she was so ill that her back legs gave up on her and the vet advised it was too much and too cruel to keep her alive. I was devastated!
I just wanted to say that yes indeed this is a normal look for a very sick old cat, however from what you say it's owners do not seem that bothered about it. I hope I'm wrong :(

Pets at Home order arrived at Ewa's place today - food, litter, litter tray, toy mouse ;)

We had several offers of help with vet costs if needed from lovely people on here (you know who you are), will see what vet says on Monday.

Ewa has Sunday and Monday off so will have more time to look after the cat in daylight too.
