    pm,ed you gettingready :)
  • RSPCA vet costs are heavily subsidised, I think it's around half the price of a normal vet or more. But they usually require you to be on benefits of some kind and to provide proof of this - has she arranged something with them beforehand?

She isn't the 'owner', she is taking it in as a STRAY! she has no intention of owning it - but is willing to find new home if necessary for it! shouldn't that be enough to qualify this poor cat for help?
but I see what you mean!

I just had a thought! if she takes it in as a stray and the vet thinks its badly neglected/abused - might the RSPCA then take it in?

Well if they did(and i doubt it ,they have so many cats already needing homes) then GR and her friend would have no control or say in it's fate.Medication, food and a warm place to lay it's weary body would transform this already friendly cat who craves affection, into a wonderful pet for someone.

That choice ought to go to these 2 wonderful people who have spent their time and money on it so far.

I personally wouldnt want the RSPCA to take the cat in, some shelters have a policy of putting cats and dogs to sleep and Im sure the RPSCA and SSPCA in Scotland do this. I am aware that in some cases some animals are ill and the decision to put to sleep is made in their best interests.

I got 3 of my cats from the SSPCA but when I asked them directly did they ever put healthy animals down they didnt respond and I know someone who worked for the RSPCA who said that healthy animals are often put to sleep.

Give that cat into the RPSCA, you wont know what happens to it, thats the very bottom line.

I totally agree Froglet! I posted in haste and meant it as a warning to Gettingready to pass on to her friend! when she takes it on Monday.

hmm, perhaps gettingreadys friend might hint she MAY be persuaded to take it on - while a forever home is sought?

Sorry, had a problem and was on the phone for ages as courier did NOT deliver the carrier despite me giving 2 BUSINESS addreses. They were mumbling about washing lines that the courier photographed. Where? In hairdressers? In chicken shop? jesusssssssssssssssssssssss, they wanted £12.00 for redelivery for tomorrow , idiots !!!!! Clearly courier was an idiot, knocking on back doors rather that believe the addresses were business and the chicken shop being open at the FRONT where customers come in.....

So no carrier. Got to get one in Argos tomorrow and then try to get money back for the one I ordered and never got to Ewa, not on time anyway grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

PDSA - no branch near Ewa.

RSPCA vets - we are not leaving cat there as it is more than likely to be PTS so nope.

Really tired, have to go to bed.. will see what we can do tomorrow :(

Our vet used to charge about £70 for blood tests - this was to monitor the thyroid and included kidney function too. However, I don't think this is much help as we're talking about South East here. Anyway, I'm sure we can do a whip around if need be. Happy to help.
