Well I'm not particularly a cat lover but even I can see that the cat doesn't look well. Easter is far too long to leave it before it sees a vet.

I hope your friend doesn't change her mind about taking it to the vet on Monday.

If you could take away the fur that poor thing would be skin and bone!

You know GR, there are plenty of people out there who'd say that keeping 7 cats and dogs in a small flat while working full time is wrong, is neglectful etc. You'd disagree of course, but how would you feel if someone who completely thought they were in the right decided to try and take your pets away for their own good?
They could not - my pets would not be put in a position like that. Alone, out, at night, in the cold.

Because they are loved and cared for.

Small correction - I have 4 cats and 1 dog in a 2 bed flat where I live by myself.

Cats sleep when I am not in. Dog s taken out by a dog walker when I am at work.

All insured, microchipped, regularly wormed/vaccinated/flea treated, medicated when needed, few good quality food, brushed, groomed, cuddled - LOVED.

    So try another one....

It is a bit odd that it hasn't got an outside bed/den/shelter though especially for the bad weather. I don't like to think of a poor cat without an outside hut of some description for the wind rain, snow etc...especially when ill.

If a cat likes being outside even if on particular food you are never going to be able to stop it helping itself to what it wants to eat and can't really lock it in all the time if spent a lifetime outside I guess.

Did the cat come trotting to them when they were talking?..as in did cat and owner seem interested in each other?

You would hope that if he doesn't have any interest in the cat that he would have been sensible enough to say so and allow someone else to care for it. However sadly this doesn't always happen, I tried to do this with a neighbour years ago who was neglecting their cat, refused to see it and didn't want cat rehomed for some bizarre reason which I can only assume came down to their ego and not admitting to not really caring. And I am not ashamed to say that several months later the cat was re-homed...and without owners permission....and by me....i wasn't prepared to watch the poor cat go further down hill.....and i'm not bothered if anyone wants to call it theft as in my mind it was rescue. The cat went to my ex and his dog, and had a lovely life with a sensible responsible owner untill old age.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

I'm not suggesting that your animals actually are neglected, I'm suggesting that some well meaning but misguided person could decide they are, and decide to wait until they're unsupervised and take them to be 'rehomed with someone who'll care for them'. Nothing you say would convince them that they aren't absolutely justified.

How would you feel, please answer.

gettingready, some years ago when I posted about a neighbour trying to steal my cat you said that cats will move on to a better home if they are not happy/well fed/cared for.

Do you still stand by that and, if so, how do you explain this cat staying with his owners for the last 19 years?

Oh! And I would just like to comment about the lack of dinner bowls - I feed some of my dogs outside and when they've eaten I pick them up to wash them - Simples!!

This is exactly the point I was trying to make about her friends 4 large dogs in a small flat. To many people that would be an absolutely awful situation. What if somebody decided that they should be rehomed where they have got plenty of room to gallop around all day instead of staring at 4 walls and waiting for their absent owner to come home and relieve the boredom?

It was me that questioned about the bowls. Point taken you are correct it is possible this is what is happening, I was just thinking of one of my neighbours whos cat lives outside, has bowls left outside which they feed it from.

What did strike me as significant was, when questioned the owner said they were getting the cat shaved after Easter. If they had not planed this to be the case surely they would have replied along the lines of yes we will get that done soon. When put on the spot I doubt they would have had time to think up a reasonable time (ie when the weather gets warmer) for shaving to be done, it must have been something that was already planed.
