fair enough - but I still feel that the poor thing is sadly neglected!
  • I don't think there is much more you can do, it does seem like they are keeping an eye on it and it is sensible to wait until easter for it to be shaved when the weather is warmer. Some cats just don't like to be indoors. You have given them the easy option / way out to remove the cat and they didn't want that, I assume they do make a fuss of it when they see it.

Did your friend notice bowls by their house which they feed it from?

You have done the right thing by looking out for the cat but it seems there is nothing else you can do.

There is PLENTY more that can be done but it seems that any one trying to help now will be villified even more.

Poor poor cat.Never known a warm fire,a cosy bed, lots of fuss and a good meal.

What on earth is the point of having one? if the cat was feral and they were unable to entice it indoors i could understand but it is very friendly and comes for a stroke. If they don't want it inside they could at least provide a proper shelter and a bed in a shed or something.

I just don't get some people.

There is no shelter for the cat anywhere, the only dishes are the ones that Ewa takes.

Me too - and I don't care if people slag me off! I would do my best to make sure that this cat spent the rest of its days in a warm comfortable loving HOME!

Thanks - I do not particularly care what SOME people think/posted here as the cat is my main concern, not opinions or accusations.

My plan - I will write a letter to the owners, post it, wait.

Got some good advice from another friend who is very experienced in situations of pet neglect and rescue when owners are not willing to give up the pet - as to what/how to write.

    Will see.

Is there anything the owner could possibly say that would stop this or are you and your friend completely hell bent on taking this cat even if she has a perfectly reasonable explanation for its condition?

Well I got my answer, can't pretend to be surprised.

Glad to see for you it is perfectly reasonable to explain an old, unwell cat living outside by "it always lived outside"

I notice they didn't say 'it isn't allowed in' or 'we don't let it in'.

Its not exactly far from home, is it?

No, you'd made your mind up, before you even posted probably. I almost hope you are right and they don't care, so that you don't end up breaking an owner's heart and disrupting and upsetting a content but elderly cat at the end of its life.

You know GR, there are plenty of people out there who'd say that keeping 7 cats and dogs in a small flat while working full time is wrong, is neglectful etc. You'd disagree of course, but how would you feel if someone who completely thought they were in the right decided to try and take your pets away for their own good?
