  • Really sorry to hear about OH's work problem. Are there opportunities locally for someone in his line of work or might it mean a very long commute if he finds something similar elsewhere or even a change of career? Fingers crossed for a happy outcome. Don't you go exhausting yourself trying to do the work of 2!

Just been online and seen that Andy Murray has lost to Roger Federer at the Australian Open so that's obviously something else to dampen your spirits today. I'm sorry to say I've never been a big Andy Murray fan myself. Can't explain why, just can't warm to the guy, but am sorry all the same that he lost after making such efforts in appalling weather conditions earlier in the tournament so soon after his op. Give him a few more matches when he'll be fully 'match fit' and back to his winning ways. I'm feeling glum because David Ferrer was beaten by Berdych (who I can't stand!)

Thanks CBC - OH will still have a job for the next 6 months and there are others he can apply for. He'll also get a big redundancy payout, so he's not panicking just yet.

Flaming Federer. I can't stand him . He's so conceited and up his own backside. I am mainly a Murray fan because he's British, but I do like his playing style too. Some of the shots he pulls off are amazing to watch and he hits the ball so hard when you see him live (doesn't come across like that on TV). I think he gets too much stick over his personality too. I don't think I'd always look happy if I played a 4 hour match and then got a load of cameras and microphones shoved in my face. I guess some people are better at handling it than others.

I'm not a massive fan of Berdych either - dates back to an incident in a match against Murray at the US Open one year. He was a bit unsportsmanlike after a point. Things like that always stick in my mind. I was watching Nadal play Monfils the other day and the commentator said that Monfils always says please and thank you to the ball boys and girls when they hand him the towel. I have a very good opinion of him now.

I don't like Wawrinka either (he just comes across as really shifty), so I'm routing for Nadal now.

I could talk about tennis all day!! ;)

  • I'm really pleased that things won't be a problem financially for you and OH for a good while yet, if ever.

It's not Andy's personality as such that I don't care for (I prefer his demeanour to someone like Djokovic for instance) it's just the whole package somehow. Maybe it's his Mum that bugs me:eek:, that's one lady I just wouldn't care to get the wrong side of! If Andy plays anyone I'm not a major fan of then I always root for Andy as he is brilliant and has had to put up with so much over the years from the media. I was thrilled for him when he won a major at last but I wouldn't drop everything just to catch one of his matches.

It's interesting what you said about Monfils. I've noticed that Ferrer always hands his towel back to the ballboy/girl when he's used it whereas most others just fling theirs at them. Don't know whether he thanks them but he seems more polite and considerate than a lot of others. He's hardly scintillating in press conferences and post-match interviews though, possibly because his English isn't too good (although after so many years on the circuit I can't understand why he hasn't tried to get better at it when most other foreign players speak excellent English). I do know he is a shy sort of guy (maybe that's why I like him so much together with his never-say-die style of playing). In many ways he and Andy are pretty similar.

    Like you, I love tennis:heartsmil

Tennis and films CBC - my two big loves :D

Speaking of which, I forgot to mention that we went to see the new Jack Ryan movie on Monday. I enjoyed it. It had some good action and I think Chris Pine is really hot (even though the woman sat next to me didn't have a clue who he was).

It was much better than Lincoln, which I watched on Sky last night - that film was extremely boring in my view (and I'm not adverse to history by any means - I did a history A Level at college).

    Afternoon :)

Thought I'd better post about something other than tennis and football ;).

I've been struggling with what to do money wise. I tried to do the 100 questions (£40 a day) thing and I managed a week of it and then kind of fell off the rails. It's really hard to get them done along with my treatments and other stuff (like housework and time to myself). I get so far and then get brain overload and then can't face doing any more for a while.

So I'm thinking that 50 a day is the way to go. So much more manageable and my brain is able to cope with that amount in one day. That's £20 a day = £140 a week. I'm thinking it's better to do that and then actually get £600 for the month instead of trying for more, failing a week in and then ending up with less than £600 because by the time I start up again, I haven't got enough time left in the month to get that much.

Then I've got my DLA, which is £79.15 a week (going up to £81.30 from April), meaning I'm up to £219.15 a week (£221.30 from April).

So on top of that, if I can find a way of getting an extra £30 a week, I'll be bringing in roughly £1,000 a month, which is good enough for me and means I won't be pushing myself and hopefully my health won't suffer either.

I also think that maybe starring at the screen for so long during the day isn't helping with how tired I have been feeling recently. More time doing other stuff away from the laptop could help with this.

Sorry for rambling on a bit, just wanted to get my thoughts down in writing.

Thanks Lou :) - I've been doing this for the past few days and it's so much better in terms of fitting my treatments in. I've already nearly finished my 50 for the day.

Oops, haven't posted for a few days.

We had a busy weekend. We went to see OH's parents on Saturday. They paid for the meal again - second time in a row  I think maybe they have a new year's resolution not to be skinflints ;)

We then went for a meal with some friends on Sunday night. It cost us £37 (for both of us) but it was lovely to catch up with our friends.

I'm getting my new drugs delivered tomorrow (legal ones of course!). Can't say I'm looking forward to taking them, but if they improve my lung capacity and extend my life a bit more, it will be worth it. I'm going to start going to the gym too. I might just use the rowing machine (used to love that when I went there 10 years ago) but at least I'll be getting some exercise. It will also encourage OH to go.

    Hi Lou :)

The IQ comes in Deep Amethyst, Burnt Orange, Chilli Red, Eclipse Black, Tyrol Silver and Pearl White. I think I would go for the Deep Amethyst if I were choosing :)

When are you due to get a new car?
