You won't be offered the best deals until you cancel (request PAC etc)

You need to call them on 13th January.

If you can't strike a deal then wait about 2 weeks before you order up the Virgin SIM (they might still come back with a deal). Once your number is transferred then your existing T-Mobile SIM will be de-activated.

Have a read of this thread for more info about using your PAC.

    Stay lucky.

thanks again for the import scrounger.

    So my timetable as follows:

    telephone call one 13th Jan
call t mobile, request PAC code, explain I want to stay but have seen a better deal with Virgin Media - try and negotiate if possible.

    telephone call two 27th Jan
unless agreed a new contract with T-Mobile on 13th Jan, wait two weeks for T-Mobile to contact me, if no contact, telephone VM

    13th Feb
start new contract around this date with either a better deal form T-Mobile, or with Virgin Media.

    thanks for the link

If you want to keep your number then you will need to start the new contract before the old one finishes - I was allowing for a fairly generous 2-week overlap:

Yes, if a new deal is agreed then no further action needed - best outcome.

    Order Online about 27th Jan
If no deal with T_mobile then place your order with Virgin (£28.50 Cashback through Quidco )
When your number ports across, your T-Mobile service will cease (though they'll still charge you until 13th Feb )

sounds good to me Scrounger. I notice on the T-Mobile PAc code link you sent me, there are alot of people on there very unhappy regarding early termination fees. Some customers received there pack code on the day they provided T-Mobile with there 30 day notice, and received a ETF.

Others receiced a ETF when they requested there pac code on the last day of there contract, so i have a funny feeling, if i leave it might be a bumpy ride.

Yjamks for the link with quidco. it sounded attractive, £28.50 for getting something i want, however I notice it said under the T&C: "no cashback is payable on monthly sim only contracts and PAYG offiers, so i think that might affect me with what i am after.

    Good try though!!!

Yes, you're right, I only did a quick, cursory check on Quidco; so sorry for getting your hopes up.

The 'bumpy ride' you speak of is one of the reasons why it would be better for you to stay with T-Mobile. However, I wouldn't let a few bumps prevent you leaving if they won't give you what you want.

Let us know how you get on the 13th Jan.

Others may be able to advise you further

no offense taken, so don't worry about quidco, I am armed with more knowledge now, than I had before. sure, I most certainly will provide a update for the 13th. I am going to provide them with the 30 day notice, and and enquire about the PAC Code. I will also ask on several occasions about the ETF, in the hope the call is recorded.

I telephoned T-Mobile today. I gave my 30 days notice (expires 13th February 2014). I also received my pac code there and then. I enquired about Early Termination fees, and told as I have up to 28 days to use the PAC code, and advised to use this code on or around 10th February. The company was pants at offering me a good offer even though they acknowledged I had been a customer for 16 years with not a single default of payment. There best offer was refering me to the EE website of 1000 minutes, unlimted text and 3GB sim only 12 months £11.00

I was thinking of the virgin media offer of sim only 30 day rolling programme, unlimited text/calls/data £16.00 however my own phone and broadband provider are offering unlimited calls/text and 4GB data, sim only 12 months £12.00 a month, bargin i would say.

I have some questions based on today:

    1) should i contact talktalk at the end of the month, or on 10th february?

    2) I got a t-mobile PAYG handset, should I assume this handset is locked into T-mobile and if so will a talktalk sim work in the handset?

I did speak to customer service at T-mobile, but they could not tell me if my handset was locked or not, even when they requested the IME number.

Itrs areal shame I am leaving T-mobile, I do not really want to leave them, however, if you can get a better deal, go else where.

I have researched further into the talktalk offer. the sim only plan as mentioned above is £12.00 per month for 12 months (i cant work out how much it is after that time)

the T&C state this monthly charge is only offered up to the 5th February, as it is part of a sale promotion, afdter that date it goes up to by 20% to £15.00 (an extra £36.00 for the 12 months)

based on the info from T-Mobile, can I get this offer by the 5th Feb, and supply talktalk with my pac code on 10th February???, or do i need to do the whole process in one go?

I passed my local T-Mobile/EE store today on the high street. unlimted text / unlimited calls / unlimited data, the same package i am on now, for the same sim only plan of £16.00 a month. how can a store offer this to new customers, but EE could not renew my current contract onto this offer, I dont get this phone company. I got a letter today from T-Mobile confirming my PAC code, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

    An option.
If you 'sign up' with talktalk by the 5th Feb then you will get the deal. They will issue a sim with a new mobile number and it will be active (your T-Mobile number is still active with T-Mobile at this point so you won't miss any calls) You then ring talktalk at the relevant time with your T-Mobile PAC and they will transfer your number to that sim. They will most likely give you a date when the transfer will take place probably 2-5 days later (note that the number transfer is never immediate)

There will, of course, be a bit of an overlap and you may have 1 month where you are paying both.

I have used a PAC 3 times in the past for various family members shopping around for the best deal on pay monthly sim only and have always used the above procedure. ie request PAC code with existing telco, sign up with new telco, bag the deal and get a new sim/number then port the existing number to them with the PAC.
In all cases the existing telco have credited me with an amount for the unused money pro-rated for the month.

Oh, and if you are still thinking of Virgin mobile then your T-Mobile/EE/ handset will almost certainly work. I bought an EE locked iPhone from CEX, took it to a high street VM store and asked them if it would work as I was considering moving to them. They opened up a new PAYG sim card pack, stuck it in the phone to test for me.

    Hope this helps.

yes thanks for this, since posting here, I have found out I can get a sim and pac my code after. Your also right, based on my research Virgin Media use T-Mobile/ee lines so VM sim cards use in T-Mobile/ee locked handsets.

I have decided to go to TalkTalk as I am with them already and they are cheaper than VM at the moment. I am waiting for T-Mobile to unlock my phone, they will charge me just over twenty quid. I cant wait to leave them. I am hoping to contact talktalk between 1st - 3rd February. I am a pac virgin right now, but if this goes well, then I might do this more often like yourself
