BEWARE T-Mobile early termination fee when useing pac code...
Options
HI all, just a heads up for anyone coming to the end of their contract with T-Mobile. I gave my 30 days notice on the 6th Dec and was told to use the Pac code to move my number before the 5th Jan. if I didn’t use the Pac code before that date my contract with T-Mobile would not end and I would still be charged.
just got my final bill which included a £16 fee. (which I was never told about) when I phoned to ask why, I was told that I was charged that because I used the Pac code before the 5th Jan,
first off the girl said there was nothing she could do, "not good enough". then she said her computer told here that it was an acceptable charger :rotfl: again "not good enough". I asked for the manager, and I quote "he will tell you the same thing I have" she went away again and after 35 minutes on the phone. result "sorry sir our apologies we realize that there is a grey area in our terms and conditions regarding this and will happily remove the fee" :T
doubt it’s a grey area though, more like a nice little earner for T-Mobile.
ps: Thanks to SAYNO TO 0870 for saving me the call charge too.

You are right. This is a black and white area, nothing grey - and they know this very well.
T-mobile are notorious for starting employing this dodgy practice recently to rob their leaving customers that don't have guts to challenge the wrongful ETC. When challenged they always refund it.0 -
Eh? That fee should not have been refunded!!
When you ask for a PAC, you are giving 30 days notice to leave. If you use your PAC before this 30 period then you are still charged the remainder of the notice period, this is the fee that was applied. It's the same on other networks too and is very VERY clear in the t+c's (ie: to leave you have to give 30 days notice)
ie: You ask for PAC on 1st Dec, expires on 30th Dec. You use it on 3rd Dec, so on your last bill you are charged LR up until 30th December (Shown as a PAC code debit or similar)
What you should have done is used the PAC on 3rd Jan to minimise this fee.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

It isn't 100% clear if this was the case this time though.0 -
Make sure they actually refund you into your account. I've had to formally complain because they have told me twice that it'd be in and it hasn't. Been going on since Aug.
I used mine on 28th day due to Tesco needing 48 hours to change it and was charged.
Keep on at them if they don't have the money in your account in 14 days!0 -

and if op paid line rental in advance, which may not be the case with t-mobile (depends when you joined) this would have been refunded and replaced with ETF meaning OP is no out of pocket. If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0 -
hi all, yeah i have no problem paying any line rental up until the 5th Jan. which is the end date of my contract, but this was an extra charge for using pac code early. havent a clue what simax is on about, obviously a troll.Norn Iron Club No:468

Priceless.. You always provide links where you are the only person stating
something you are trying to back up..
Just because you've said similar in multiple threads, doesn't make it true.0 -
Are you for real?
I posted links to the threads where other people posted about their similar experience.
Do my comments in these threads devalue the facts posted there by other people?
E.g.T-Mobile have only just refunded me, nearly a month after leaving...
...Moral of the story, check your final bill with T-Mobile to make sure that they haven't charged you early termination before actually leaving and make sure that you get any unused line rental charges back as well.
T-Mobile seem to have been doing this sort of thing for a while: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/30174560 -

E.g.
No, other people have posted about getting fees added for leaving their contracts early by using a PAC early.
ie they have paid for their notice period, any person can see that, except you.
You again back up what you say in these threads, by linking to other threads where you have commented to backup what you've said, by again linking to threads where you've done the same.
How about an external link, to say the TMobile forum, where a TMobile employee will either backup what these charges are for, or say they are nothing more than the end of the contract being paid up.0 -
Hi had exact same problem with T-mobile when I left them, but I had specifically asked adviser 3 times about any charges and he said there wont be any (retentions team), when i received bill there was an £15 early termination charge and a £3 PAC request charge, clearly i was misled and lied to so next month I phone customer services based in the Philippines and told her assertively I had not been told of these charges and i had be misled she immediately refunded all charges
Clearly T-mobile are using these illegal tactics so people will not phone up, when you call up from my experience you must be in the mindset to shout at them otherwise they will just walk all over you0
