hello all,

Currently I am on the full monty sim only plan, which includes:

unlimited local/national/x net work anytime calls
unlimited text messages
unlimited data
free voicemail

Line rental: £16.00

I bought a Nokia Lumas 520 at £99.00 a few months ago, which I am happy with.

I am looking at my options for renewal. reduce line rental? additional handset?

My obviouse thought, is to contact T-Mobile and talk to upgrades, or even visit my nearest EE store.

I read somewhere chitterchatter offer really good renewal deals.

Any import/information/suggestions welcome

Depends what your after really, my previous deal, which I've just cancelled was the £10 sim only plan, discounted to £8.

I cancelled it last month as I no longer needed it, they offered it for £7 when I called to cancel, then their retensions called me and offered it for £5 to get me to stay, but only after me repeatedly saying I was leaving.

It's worth noting though that I wasn't trying to play hardball, I wanted to cancel as I no longer need the phone and did indeed want to cancel, nothing, even them reducing my monthly cost to zero would have got me to withdraw the cancellation.

Trinidadone - You could try ringing them to cancel and see if they offer you a better deal but the real question is "have you been satisfied with the present deal"?
As everything you mention - calls, texts etc is unlimited for £16 a month it would seem to cover everything for you and a cheaper new tariff might have limits to the data etc.
If you use the phone a lot it might be better to stay on the full monty rather than changing to save three or four quid.
I know this is a moneysaving website but the cheapest deal isn't always the best value.

i hear you, I am happy with the current deal. I need unlimited, as I use the phone a lot, but I have also been with the company since one2one in the 90's, so I want to get a better deal off my monthly line rental

OK, well I started the road today of finding out what offers T-Mobile had for me. I have had some issues with T-Mobile, but the company has put these issues to bed, which is good.

I telephoned a few times and I spoke to upgrades, and cancellations. between the two, the best i could be offered is:

stay with the current sim plan and pay £21.00
(£5.00 monthly increase) for 12 months with T-Mobile

or cap my data to 500mbs per month for £13.00 per month
(i used 900mbs in December) and move to EE

I have seen the same package i am on for £15 a month with virgin media ( £1.00 cheaper a month and only a 30 day rolling contract)

my current handset is locked to T-Mobile, so i am sure i will need to unlock somewhere, some questions for people:

    whats virgin media mobile like?
is it easy to leave one mobile company and join another without loss of service?
Is there any difference between EE and T-Mobile?

The Virgin Unlimited Plan looks ideal for you (and the Virgin SIM will work in your existing T-Mobile handset without unlocking).

The alternative would be the 3 One Plan.

If T-Mobile won't match (or better) the Virgin deal then request your PAC code and use it within 30 days.
The transfer should be pretty painless.

    Thankyou for your response Scrounger,

you mention the virgin sim would work on my existing T-Mobile locked handset, is that because virgin use T-Mobile lines, or something else?

The oneplan from 3 is interesting too, can that be used in a locked T-Mobile handset, or do I need to unlock the handset?

In regards to a PAC code, what do I do, just simply call T-Mobile?

I notice the One Plan and Virgin Media unlimited are both 30 day rolling contracts, I assume this means both companies can increase there line rental within 30 days, and there is no yearly upgrade?

Yes (though it won't work the other way round)

Yes and this is where you do your negotiating with retentions.

Yes, but is it does not tie you in for long you are free to move.
Incidentally, the 3 One Plan is available as a 1-month or 12-month contract.

If you are good at negotiating (and keep mentioning the Virgin deal) when you speak to retentions then you may not need to change providers - this would probably be your best outcome.

Let us know how you get on.

thanks scrounger, your full of knowledge on this. I do hope your right, and i dont need to change, but both upgrades and retentions were not prepared to budge on this. seperately they told me drop to a data cap or pay an extra £5.00. But like you said, this might change once we get into the PAC code, especially as I have been with T-Mobile/one2one for 16 years next month, and have never defaulted a single payment during that time.

Another question to pick your brain, if unfortunantly I need to change to Virgin Media, should I expect a total loss of service at some point, or is it simply take out T-mobile sim, and add virgin sim?

My contract ends with T-mobile on 13th February, so I assume if i do go with Virgin, i should start the contract around that time????

thanks again scrounder, your full of info

...upgrades and retentions were not prepared to budge on this...
You won't be offered the best deals until you cancel (request PAC etc)
My contract ends with T-mobile on 13th February..
You need to call them on 13th January.

If you can't strike a deal then wait about 2 weeks before you order up the Virgin SIM (they might still come back with a deal). Once your number is transferred then your existing T-Mobile SIM will be de-activated.

Have a read of this thread for more info about using your PAC.

    Stay lucky.
